Cannot believe it took me so long to fix it. The manual certainly didn't help. In a nutshell, turns out the culprit was the way I set the "easy exit." So easy I will let my enthusiastic daughter explain it for you! Hope this helps someone out, because it was driving me crazy not having the seat/steering wheel go to the presets I set! Enjoy!
Note: this is on an automatic 2014. The 2015 procedure is largely the same except that you can set your presets by pressing "set" first and then either "1" "2" or the exit icon. In the 2014 you MUST press the "set" and 1, 2, or exit simultaneously or you will not get the confirmation beep!
UPDATE #1: If you have an M7, there is a software fix (See the complete information in post #66) that the dealer can apply for you that ads the option for the seats to go to the presets upon pressing the start button rather than when you open the door. Finally!!
UPDATE #2: To figure out which FOB is for which pre-program follow the instructions in the video and set up both #1 and #2 (and the exit of course). You want to make #2's setting distinctly different from #1 in order to test this. Then bring only ONE of the FOBs to the car and press the unlock button on the FOB. Get in the car and press the start button. The car will move to one of the presets. Then press the start button again (to turn the accessories off; you don't actually have to start the car to do this), exit the vehicle and lock it. Grab the other FOB and use it to unlock the car and then get in and press start. It should go to the other preset setting. Now it is just a matter of marking the FOBs with a little colored dot or buying covers for them from an online store in order to tell them apart! Hope that solves the mystery for those trying to set both presets. http://youtu.be/1cPQWIHFDdE

I just got my 2005 C6 from the dealer service. After paying $65.00 diagnosis. They said I need to replace the memory module, cost for parts and labor......,,,wait for it........ $560.00. Thank you for saving me that money!!!! Thank you, thank you, oh, did I fail to say
THANK YOU!!!
That fix doesn't work for me. I drive the car with the seat all the way back. The Chevy Field Engineer has told me that once the seat goes all the way back it activates a sensor behind the seat that kills the memory for the seat recall and easy exit. They actually put in writing that this is a design flaw. Due to my height I need to have the seat all the way back. I guess I'll have to sell it to someone much shorter. Anyway doesn't seem right that Their design flaw keeps me from using the car the way that is best for me and that I have to accept that.

Don't understand your issue. If it's all the way back what more do you want it to do? Second and probably most important you can get another 1/2 inch or more and have the seat memory work! Lots of threrads on how but in a nut shell. Your hitting an emergency stop that in essence shuts the seat power off. You just have to unplug the switch! Many tall guys have done that. Then it's up to you not to burn the motor out! Suggest you look thru this thread or seach the forum you'll find pics of how to do it! The dealer is not going to tell you how to defeat a seat motor protection feature.

Thank you for exposing that design software flaw. I had it working and then not. I will adjust the seat slightly up from all the way back and enjoy this feature

JerryU,
Why would I do that? Not a good idea to bypass their safety design and hope I don't burn out the seat motor. The issue is that when the settings have the seat all the way back, the steering wheel will not move to it's recall position.

You're call do as you wish. It just takes some thought and not holding in the rear move position, it won't burn up instantly! Just say'in some tall folks have gained what they think is a more comfortable position. Lots of threads on the subject.
Then all you need to do is move it forward 1/4 inch from that stop. I even do that for my exit position.
Take it back and tell them to look it up. There is a service bulletin on this for the M7
I had to take the info from post 66 on the service builtin to my dealer to get them to install the software update

I have a 2016 Z51, 3LT, A8. The seat memory does not work. It was great in my C5 and C6!!!
In following Ginger's video, the only thing I have not done is press the "unlock" on the FOB as I approach the car. YGTBKM! I will have to take this up with GM that they require a FOB unlock to make this all work. Crazy
This seems a giant step backwards. My car has 1700 miles and the seat memory does not work!!!???!!!
Thanks to the forum - not my local dealer - I found that my memory seat problem was due to trying to program memory 1 with fob 2! Since the fobs were not marked I simply switched to the second fob - found it programmed memory 1 without a problem. Really simple, if I had just known that from the beginning. Several hours of fooling around just to find the solution here on the forum. THANKS!
I just bought a new 2016 Silverado 1500 Z71 LTZ. How nice it was to insert the key and see this message come up on the driver information screen in the dash: "This Fob is #1 for Memory Settings". I tried the other key/fob and it was identified as #2 for memory settings. Within a matter of minutes, I had both fobs programmed and everything works flawlessly. My 2015 Z51 Stingray works perfectly as well, but what a journey it was to get to that point.
I also noted that the Silverado manual has the same error in it as the Stingray manual. Both say to press the Set or Memory button first, then press the number 1 or 2 button until you get two beeps. On both my vehicles, I had to press the Set or Memory button and the 1 or 2 simultaneously to get the settings to program and receive the two beeps.

I don't have to hold both on my 2016.
I think people don't realize you have to hit the First button and always HOLD the second until it beeps. It's like old school radio presets where you hit SET and then hold the preset you want to save.
A quick hit ALWAYS recalls the setting, never stores event if you have hit the set/M button!

FWIW for others. The M7 2016's have the "Optional Software" that was available at the dealer mid to late 2014. That was about a year and a half after I got my C7. For most 2014/15's you have to have it dealer installed.
I have a 2014 M7 and have to hold in my #1 button unless I start the car first. I didn't bother to get the optional software. Like most "normal size people" I must have the seat move forward to fully depress the clutch if I want the seat to move with a hit of the button. No big deal for me, had 1 1/2 years to master my two hand multitask approach, works great and is faster for my DD.
Some of the confusion about button pushing sequence is the Owners Manual. Mine says, "Press and hold SET and “1” at the same time until a beep sounds."
However I reset mine frequently when the car is moving by; A) first hitting the set button with a finger on my left hand and B) THEN hitting my # 1 button with the same finger. It beeps and memorizes that position. It no doubt depends on how fast you hit the buttons.
Been may posts since 2013 arguing which way to do it. Looks like if your quick enough, both work!
So....thank you GM for your horrible owner manual writing. Anyways, what I realized is that if have an M7 C7, your seat memory recall will only work if the car is in Neutral and you use the parking brake. This really messed me up, because I have always had manual transmission cars in my life. It has always been instinct to put the car in 1st gear when parking and to avoid using the parking brake unless on a really steep hill. Muscle memory got me this time. If you want memory seat recall to work in your M7 C7, when you park....turn on the parking brake, put it in Neutral, then shut off the engine.
Geez GM....put this in the owner's manual.
