Just got some pics of the worlds first after market right hand drive conversion c7. As GM will not make a RHD version us Aussies have to do it - and we do it very well. Price is the killer - $250k. Enjoy some pics:
Passenger side wasn't mirrored, just "slid over". Otherwise, nice job.
I lived in Great Britain for 4 years, driving a standard shift Volvo. Takes a bit of a learning curve, especially the round-a-bouts. London to the submarine base at Holyloch was really a fun trip....
I've seen a lot of Corvette conversion jobs in Sydney, but this is one of the very best. I always love it when the Corvette clubs show their Vettes on the Darling Harbor bridge each year. Someday I hope to see a Vette gathering in Brisbane too. Good on 'ya.
I know this is an automatic, but I'm so uncoordinated with my left hand I don't think could drive that if it was a manual.
Masterfully done Stingray !!
The RHD brings back my memories of, at a young/foolish age, when I shared driving my buddy's 1948 MG TC 4-SPEED synchro RHD roadster on a long trip to Canada's maritimes. Wow, I shifted with my left hand and viewed the gutter on the right side for 2,000 miles, Ugh. Sweet, noisy, tempermental, uncomfortable, ornery machine.
At $250k they will be as rare as hens teeth downunder. Cost quickly adds up:
Original purchase price ($US to $A conversion)
Transport to port ($US to $A conversion
Shipping ($US to $A conversion)
Import duty (government charge based on total $US costs)
Goods & Services Tax (government charge)
Luxury car tax (government charge)
Cost of transport to RHD converter
RHD conversion cost (mega$ - min $50k)
Registration & Stamp duty (government charge)
When will GM do a factory RDH corvette for export? Ford are bringing a factory RHD Mustang downunder next year which will sell like hot cakes.
