Default Allotment question

I have a good friend who went to his local Chevrolet dealership to order a 2015 Corvette. They made a deal on the price and trade in of his car. He thought they were ordering him a car from the factory. Turns out, they dont have an allotment for a car. The way he tells me, they are having to wait for a slot, then find the car he wants and have it shipped to them. Does this sound correct? I dont understand the allotment. Please explain. Thanks.

I understand that and know that's how it's done but I also think it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. If there is a customer with money to buy a car, wants the car and everything why wouldn't GM be more than happy to send the dealership a car? I would have LOVED to bought my Vette at my local, small town dealership (and they would have loved it too) but since they have probably never sold a new Corvette, they had no allotment. So I had to go buy one somewhere else. Dumb.

Actually, having an allocation allows them to order a car from GM. It's possible, but I doubt they can find another dealer willing to ship them a C7 from their lot to your dealer.

I think dealers have to send a tech to training to become a "Corvette" technician. It wouldn't make sense to become a low volume Corvette dealer with that requirement.

Hello Monty... makes no sense to me either. And the dealership sells quite a few Corvettes, so I dont understand at all. I think if it were me, I would just go find another dealer who could order the car I wanted.

You should tell your friend (who I assume lives in this area somewhere) that he should contact Wes Milby in Springfield, MO at Reliable Chevrolet. That's who I bought my car from - he gave me a no BS price right off and it was enough of a discount that the trip to Springfield was well worth the 300 mile drive. I did everything via text message and email - I never laid eyes on him or spoke to him until the day I picked my car up. Reggie, tell your friend GOOD LUCK!
