A question for those who have used Hydro2 Touchless Silica Sealant:
Many detailers say you should polish the car before you seal it, but what I have read about Hydro2 Touchless Silica Sealant, seems to imply you just clean the paint well, then put the material on as directed. Any thoughts on the right way to go?
I would polish first. The sealant will do nothing to improve the underlying paint. It will (or should) make it shiny, but polishing first will give you a better result. Think of it as waxing over a rock chip. The chip will still be there.
I did check out that thread, but the OP was only talking about wheels. I watched the video and it was the video (and subsequent research on line) that seemed to encourage applying the sealant directly over the paint while actually discouraging the use of polish first...

From Autogeek web site on Hydro2:
Directions:
DO NOT USE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Thoroughly clean the surface(s) to be protected. Do NOT use any type of wash and wax product as this will interfere with the bonding of Hydro2. To ensure the surface is free of any previously applied waxes and sealants, we recommend adding two ounces of Pinnacle Signature All Purpose Cleaner to your wash bucket.
Diluted Hydro2 1 part concentrate to 3 parts water into a spray bottle.
Working on a third of the vehicle at a time (while it’s still wet), spray a fine mist of Hydro2 directly onto the surface.
Thoroughly rinse off using a strong jet of water.
Continue this method until entire vehicle has been treated.
Dry the vehicle using a high quality microfiber drying towel or car dryer, like the Metro Master Blaster.
Polish is not something the stays on the paint… Many get that wrong, they think polish is some type of wax , it's not, it's a mechanical action abrasive that you are sanding the surface microscopically, and therefore it all comes off with alcohol/water , soap or whatever, then you apply your sealant, which in this case is Hydro. So the polish is not an issue here.
Many are using it at autopia and autogeek, ask there too.
I used Hydo2 on my truck this weekend. The things a beast to wax so I figured what a great way to get her shine back. Hydro2 worked great, really cool to watch this stuff work. Be interesting to see how long the shine lasts. After seeing how good it looks it made me realize I should have prepped the truck more (small scratches and such)

agreed..hydro2 is a final sealant, seal over crap and you now have shiny crap.....
