Media Track Back = Random?

Media Track Back = Random?
Noticed that both on my iPod, as well as USB media, when you are advancing tracks (while on shuffle), if you track back to the previous song, it's random, and not the previous song played. If you then advance forward again, the song that was initially there returns. Confused?

Basically, it seems like tracking backwards results in a random song. I've never experienced this in any of my vehicles before. Songs were shuffled/randomized, but a memory was kept of the previous songs so you could always track backwards to them. Anyone else notice this, or do I have a gremlin?
