The car in the article was a Z51. Not surprising that the oil took a while to come up to temp. One of the tradeoffs of the external oil reservoir is that it sucks more heat out of the oil even when you don't want it to.
Not sure why the manual transmission gets so stiff in cold weather. Sounds like the one actual complaint that should be easy for GM to fix if they tweak the oil/grease in question.

The Tremec is already running DEXRON III ATF instead of true gear oil so it's about as light as it can get.
They usually do, but wonder if C&D put winter tires on the test car. Wouldn't want to trust the summer compound again after exposure to THAT temperature.
Without a problem, I keep mine outside and it was close to that temperature for a couple of days. I start it from inside the house and when I come down stairs 7 to 10 min later it's at 180-200 degrees.
My car hasn't seen the light of day since mid-November. It's enduring 20F under its flannel blanket in my garage. Getting eager to pull the cover but there is no sign of a thaw. Then there will be weeks of melting and slop, and potholes!!
No worries, mine is sitting in a 60 degree heated garage, covered, with the battery plugged in.... Far to much salt on the roads to take it out! Winter sucks!
they don't make block heaters for these ****'s, luckily our winter hasn't been too bad.
That’s surprising, would think the aftermarket would fix that before too long. Starting any vehicle at -26 that hasn’t had a block heater running is hard on the engine, more wear.
Other than that, hopefully a heated garage which could keep the temps above freezing inside.
I’d rather be hot any day than freezing my *** off. Don
What oil viscosity do you guys in the frozen North use in winter?
Mobil 1 5W-30. But the car basically hibernates. Can't and won't drive it in the snow/salt/below zero temps. Yes, we know what we're up against in these NorthEast winters. SUX...but again...we know.
I don't have a vette yet but with my daily driver a 2002 Neon and my 99 Camaro SS I turn the key to on and don't crank them over till the fuel pump stops and this I do year round and they start right away...this past week it's been around -27C and no problem starting...can you do that with the vette or will it not allow you to first start the fuel pump...also the lowering the window to open the car is the stupidest idea an car manufacture can come up with because of winter temperatures can freeze a window from opening.
