IS there any 'real' performance difference between the 2014 w/ the 6 spd auto and the 2015 w/ the 8-spd auto? The Chevrolet published times in o-60 and the 1/4 mile are the same, just wondering if there is any difference in the 'feel of the car' being faster. I am thinking about getting a new 2014 instead of a new 2015. The money is no different because the 2014 is a 3LT and the 2015 is a 2LT. Just don't want to loose the 'feel of the pants' acceleration.
I cannot offer an answer yet as my car is built and waiting shipment. I drove the A6 and I do not expect there will be a noticeable difference. Somewhere in the million pages I reviewed prior to ordering someone said that they thought the A8 kept the engine in the proper RPM at all times enhancing the drivability. I think if you have found a good deal on the 14 and like everything else optioned on it then the A8 should not be a concern. Hopefully some folks on here with experience in both will weigh in.
Here is how this will play out...the a6 guys will say not enough difference to matter...the a8 guys will say yes its worth it...
"personally" I say there is a lot more to the decision than just 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times...Its all the different scenarios in normal day to day that matters most. To me this is where the a8 is better. Its all the normal driving nuances and you can't find a place where the a8 isn't happy and ready to roll.
I also think a 14 is now almost 2 years old and even a 3lt will be worth a lot less than a comparable 2lt three years from now...(conjecture for sure) but 3lt has very little advantage over 2lt. imo
If you're getting a 14 it needs to be a really great deal comparing to a good deal 15...
The A8 is the latest and greatest but it's a first year transmission so time will tell. My A6 hasn' t found an "unhappy" place yet so they shouldn't be disregarded. Performance times between the two are a few hundreds of a seconds with each having it's advantages.
The 3LT/2LT comparison is subjective to your wants and needs. Do your own research & listen to the posts that say "you should get what I got cause it's the best" with a grain of salt.
There is a definite difference in how fast the car shifts with the A8, but only under heavy acceleration. It is lightning quick at those times. Driving around town you won't notice the difference. On a track, you definitely will - no more searching for the right gear. This is always a 'touchy' subject so approach carefully
I purchased a used (3k miles) 14 A6. It was the right car with everything I wanted at the right time and right price. Could have gone with a 15 A8 and spent more but didn't feel it necessary. It is a vert so it will be used mainly for cruising around on nice days. I feel it comes down to what is most important to you and how you will use it. If you like the 3LT options, go for it. If the A8 is more important, go for that. Either way you will land up with one helluva car.
I don't know about the A6 because I don't own a C7 with that old technology....just kidding guys. What I notice about the A8 is when you are just driving the car, it gets in as high gear as it can as soon as it can. Right around 30 mph its already in 4th gear. There's probably no noticeable difference between the two the great majority of the time.
My C7 will be a year old next month but I can say this the A6 shifts like lightning too. However, if I had the same choice and they were the same money, I'd go for the 2015. The difference for a 3LT vs a 2LT...who cares?

I got a huge difference in price in buying a used 2014 A6 over a new 2015 A8 but if money is not a issue or the price of the cars is close go for the newer 2015 A8 like Mike said.Good luck

Let's settle this....get an M7 and you won't have to worry.

That was my opinion although I own a 2014 A6.
I think with more gears there will be less rpm drop between shifts which will keep the car at a better rpm making more power. Due to this the A8 should trap better.
I also feel the A6 takes 2 less shifts to get through the 1/4 and that is faster and better for pure drag racers.
I also say, if I were buying now I would get the A8.

I have not been to the drag strip, but I doubt either the A6 or A8 uses all the gears in the 1/4 mile.
