Anyone out there using an HD dash cam? I wouldn't splurge $1700 for the PDR. Just curious if anyone can recommend any particular brand/model that works well.
I have a Garmin VIRB. I use it for cycling and on my boat. Can add Speed, Direction and elevation to your video. Can also be paired with your phone to send tracking info to Facebook so friends will know where you are at.

I had the same reservations when I ordered my 15. So I found and bought the BlackBox G1W DashCam. Shoots 1080P at 30FPS, and looks pretty good. It doesn't have too many of the advanced PDR type features; but records good video and audio; all for under $50.
Created a vid driving around my old neighborhood that you can check out.
I also have this one but without GPS. I use a 32GB card as suggested but some have even gone with 64GB with no problems. The video is excellent and it is small enough to hide somewhat behind the rear view mirror. This Spring I plan to route the power cord to hide it better.

How did you mount your Virb? Did you use a Ram Mount or one of the Garmin suction mounts?
I have a Mini 805 dash cam hardwired next to my V1. Basic HD GPS recording with sound.
Hi Buckeye4, if I may ask, how did you hard wire your dash cam?
I have an escort Max with a blendmount using the mirror tap. I wanted to modify this to also include power for a dash cam. Have not figured that out yet

You need to convert a 12 volt source to a 5 volt USB connector. I used this adapter tapped to the 12V line (fuse #37 in rear) I used for my radar dectector. I did not use the mirror tap configuration for my V1.
I second the Black Box B40C. I have a generic version of this camera (there are many of them that use this same basic camera body) and it works great. The video is very high quality and with a 12 to 5V converter it powers on and off along with the vehicle and just keeps overwriting the files once the card is filled up. Can't beat it for the small price.
After some crazy SOB road raged on me a couple months back I decided to get a dash cam. I bought the KD Links X1 on amazon for $165. HD with a 165 degree camera view. It has GPS and a bigger screen that I can actually see plus I liked the software that shows time, date,
speed, location, and a map of where you traveled during each 5 minute clip. With a 32GB chip it records for 5 1/2 hours with sound.
So if i use a mirror tap to power a dashcam and that mirror tap is only on when the ignition is on...it looks like i would need to power up the dash cam via the power button each time?
Not sure the dash cam boots every time it senses power...I am waiting on a Rexing V1P
Anybody looked at Black Vue?
I'd like a dash cam that not only records when I drive, but also when the car is parked and I'm not there. You never know what can happen in a parking lot.
Thanks,
