Default Resurface C7 wheels - Ideas?? Help!

Well, it happened. My friend drove my C7 2014 Z51 Vert Corvette and parked it by scraping the stock gray wheels against the concrete curb. Scraping off the paint and gouging the wheel so that it looks like it was scraped by a saw.

So now I have to get them resurfaced or replaced. Any idea of where I can get this done or how?

What about taking them to a powder coater? or a GM shop? or after market fixer? or body shop? or X, Y, or Z???

Anyone have any ideas, as spring is almost here in Wisconsin.

Nick

Looks like your friend should be finding out what he needs to pay to GM for two new C7 Wheels and taking care of everything for you.

No, It was my decision to let her drive it. Thus, the responsibility is mine. If you turn over a car, or a boat, or a plane or a motorcycle to a person to drive, then it is the owner's responsibility to own that decision. Ethics 101 at any good university. But I do agree, the US does not have a lot of people who really understand ethics anymore. It has become a world that was "the best generation - WWII" to a me me me generation. I do not like it much that way. Wish we had more ethics in most everything.

I just need pics and ideas on how best to get this done.

There is a good wheel restoring outfit in MD but hopefully you can find someone closer. Call one of the high end car dealers near you and see if there is a mobile company that works on their used cars. They might be able to meet you at a dealership or come to your house. It shouldn't be a big deal. I have some some badly damaged wheels restored to like new condition.

Go to Google and search for "wheel refinishing" in your nearest large city. Most cities have a guy who works out of his van that goes around to dealers and high end detail shops and fixes curb rash.

I had a similar experience with my black wheel on my new C7. The guy came out and for $75 blended the repair so you could not even see it.

I took mine to Discount Tire. They sent them out somewhere, and they came back looking like new.

Sorry for the situation, but very nice to see this kind of attitude. Good man!

I have had two different wheels repaired. One a black wheel on my 2013 corvette and the other a silver wheel on a 2011 camaro SS. Took both to the dealer since I had tire and wheel coverage. Local repair guy that services the dealerships did a great job on both. Thanks to insurance I didn't pay a dime.

There are quite a few mobile wheel repair companies. Even a badly curbed painted aluminum wheel can be repaired to like new condition. I used a company called the Wheel Doctor when I badly curbed a wheel on a '08 Honda Accord. Came right to my house and repaired the wheel without dismounting, in my driveway. The wheel came out flawless! Cost about a $100 back then (2009).

I agree with that, when you choose an action you also choose the consequences. I try to teach that to my grandchildren (my own children should know by now). On the other hand, anytime I borrow something be it car boat or lawnmower I always return it in as good a condition as when I got it or even better if its within my power to do so. So, the bottom line in it for me is... I wouldn't ASK for her to repair it but I also think she should "man up" and offer to pay for the repairs without being asked. It was, after all, her mistake that caused the damage.

You've gotten some good advice on repairing your wheels. Don't you just love all the assistance the forum provides? Good luck with your repairs.

Yes, Ye Old Wheel Shop in Elkridge has a great rep that predates the internet. But as described by posters above, you should be able to find one close to home. I would decide however if you want your wheel sanded down, painted and done or built back up to what it should be. I'd also suggest that just about every high-end dealer service dept. (Mercedes, Lexus, Porsche, etc.) knows of, or uses someone to fix wheels frequently. Some are minor and some are more major but less expensive than a new wheel.

I'd go in (face to face) and ask the service mgr. for a recommendation. If it's as scraped as you say, this may not be a fix for a "truck" vendor, meaning it may need to go into a shop and be worked on. I could be wrong on that tho. No matter what, ask and understand what is going to be done to the wheel---don't just say fix it.

Good luck, and obviously most posters on this thread appreciate and applaud your ethics in the matter. I know I do.
