Been watching all the performance cars and their manufactures Chrysler, GM and the Mighty Mustang, I have to wonder if the Corvette is getting a little far out on the pier ? 700 Horsepower Hellcat Dodge Challenger, a Camaro Z/28 (Which is incredible on it's own) But all three of the 'Pony cars' ramping up in every aspect, I have to wonder how much longer Corvette can be justified ?

I would imagine Vette's will continue to be justified for as long as buyers want to buy a 2-seat sports car, rather than a 4 or 5 seat pony car.

I agree, I've had my 2003 for 12 years now and plan on being buried in it, (a pun intended here). I just wonder with all the horsepower models coming out of the Big-3. At times it seems like they are painting themselves into a corner. And then again, how long will the EPA allow these vehicles to be produced ?
Many people want cars that are both powerful and can turn quickly. The only ponies that can turn quickly are horses. Pony cars, not so much.
Horsepower is good if you want to go in a straight line. Now if you want to navigate the twisties..... yeah the Vette will justify itself for a long time to come.

Today's "pony" cars can around the track as fast as yesterdays "sports" cars. I hate it when people call the mustang a pony car yet Aston Martin's and others that are the same speed around a track are sports cars.
Absolutely agree. Except for the "mine is bigger than yours" principle, most of those pony car owners will never get near testing the limits of their cars. Go to Spring Mountain driving school and tell me how you think a Hellcat would do on the track against the Z51 Corvette.
Like many things in life it's all about balance. For me the Corvette is a very balanced vehicle. The other ones are a bit too extreme in one regard or another. Personally I have no desire for any of those other vehicles.

I've drove a few of these before ordering a C7 and they're all impressive but the Vette is in a different class. Just looking at it tells you it's something special. As good as the new Mustang is, and as much as Ford is pushing its refinement, as long as it's the favorite of every 25 year old, it's gunna have a hard time shaking the boy-racer image. I think there will always be room for at least one American sports car to compete with the likes of Porsche and Jaguar

To me if it was just a matter of bragging rights I'd probably go buy a Hellcat or a Shelby, or another ramped up car. For my money a well rounded 2-seat sports car that I can drive aggressively on roads with some character wins out over bragging rights. Besides, when it comes to bragging rights there will always be someone around the corner who be able to outdo you.

You couldn't convince me to purchase any one of those cars. I will take the C7 every time.

Well I couldn't agree with you more. A Mustang GT will take you up there, But to a point. And after that it's all about your driving skills. But I'm not too sure a Dodge Hellcat Challenger is going to be agreeable at that upper limits. I know this from personal experience, I was going too fast and lost my attention for a Nano second. In any other car I wouldn't be typing this now.
But, But the C5 I own, and I really believe this, the Corvette save my butt by being a very fast and very forgiving vehicle. Wear I in a "Pony" car, . . . I doubt I'd only be a little shaken driver. To me it's a attribute to a Body on frame and ultra handling characteristic automobile.
There will always be something faster, prettier that costs less. It is about how this car makes me feel that set's it apart. All the "competition" that has always been out there, how many times have you ever seen a Corvette in any of their comercials? This car, to those that appreciate it is a piece of history and it has a legacy that is unique. For those that do not appreciate or understand what this car stands for it is theri loss for I am sure that they derive pleasure from other things. This car captures a part of my soul so completely no one else can possibly understand it but those that feel the same way, kindred spirits.Let them have their cars that empty gas tanks in 13 minutes at WOT and are painted colors of the spectrum that only belong in a Peter Max painting. I will gladly wave as I pass them at the gas station or a few miles down the road from where they rode my ***, got next to me and punched it and are now getting a ticket in their "Glow in the dark" sports car. The vette is a class act I am quite happy only a select few appreciate....

The EPA doesn't decide or "allow" vehicles to be produced. The manufacturers decide based on what the market will bear. If they can meet the regs, "build it and they will come"! The future will see internal combustion and hybrids, electrics, hydrogen, and some pretty exotic carbon fiber, aluminum (sound familiar) body composites. Can't wait to see what technology holds for us down the road - pun intended!
Think about how far our cars have come since affordable micro technology has made it into vehicles in the last few years....
