I've never seen a "washable" oil filter before but it appears k&n has created a billet aluminum washable and reusable oil filter. It is quite costly and who knows how it will perform, what do you guys think? http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=SS-1017
Don’t know about this filter, would seem that the lack of an anti drainback valve isn’t a good idea. Price is pretty steep even for a “permanent” oil filter. You’d still have to take it off the car and clean it. Could buy a lot of top end filters for that $. I’ll pass.
On wonders if K&N screens their customer reviews? Maybe they let fools put out BS so that they’ll convince others to buy? This quote from one certainly says she’s smoking crack. No air filter gives 2-3 sec improvement in 0-60 times. Takes some serious engine upgrades to come near that.
"Immediately noticed a change in my 2007 Chrysler 300, 3.5L. It gave it more of a growl. It pulls in alot more air now. Its acceleration increased pretty nicely, its 0-60 cut down by 2-3 seconds. It's quicker in response to the gas pedal, when the gears change it's smoother, the engine is happy! Almost makes me wanna get the full cold air intake now!

They have been around for decades. They are oiled pleated cotton. They are very well made. They work better in some apps and less so in others. However they don't filter as well as paper. They actually filter better once they get dirty but many users clean them way too much and lose that benefit.

You're referring to their air filters, this thread is about reusable oil filters.
I like the drop in cartridges like those in my last two Cadillac 3.6 engines. More environmentally friendly for the green types and the used filter media is visible without having to cut the filter open. But I have no desire for a cleanable/reusable type and an oil filter is the last place in the engine I would experiment. The folks at K&N have created another solution in search of a problem to make it valid.
Yes. I have/had dry sumps on motorcycles/ATVs with K&M air filter. No problems.
but its not a air filter, its a OIL filter. I've never heard of this but don't think its worth the cost, it claims last a life time but is it really worth it? like others have pointed out you could get some top quality ones for 10-15.
hahahaha $263??? I don't put that many miles on so i change my oil once a year. That is 20 years worth of mobil 1 filters for the same price as this...
Do you clean out this oil filter at oil change intervals?
1. Oil filter should be cleaned per OEM specified service interval in conjunction with specified drain intervals by the lubricant supplier.
The only advantage of this filter I see would be for an actual shop racecar that it serviced between every race as they'd have access to a parts washer, plus be able to monitor any debris caught by the filter. I definitely do not see this as a product for street use.

I recall that filter, from years ago, believe it was K&N. I could not find a filter that would fit the tight clearance between the block and Sanderson headers in the 8.2 liter BB in my Street Rod! I still remember calling Sanderson who was no help and had no idea what would fit! The K&N spec says 3.25 inches high. I finally found one GM filter, which was somewhat higher but fit. Might have to buy that K&N at that crazy price if they stop making the short one! Here is a pic from their website.
