A8 Transmission Problem
I started my car just like normal and everything was fine and the car was already warmed up since I had just gotten home about 45 minutes prior. I put the car in drive and the car was fine but as I pulled out of my apartment complex and accelerated to the 40mph speed limit at a normal pace (wasnt beating on it) I got the "parking brake system error" light and the dash indicator that usually says "D" or your current gear was blank. The lighted lettering on the shifter was also off. I tried shifting between neutral, drive, and manual but that did nothing.
At this point I pulled offthe road and shut the car off. I walked away from the car and tried remote starting on a hunch that it might change something but would not remote start. After that I got in the car and started it again with no change. I decided to get back home and get in touch with GM service on Monday to see about getting this fixed.
On the short drive home I noticed that the car would shift perfectly normal in drive mode, it would also shift via paddles in manual. It would not switch into V4 mode in drive mode though and cruise control was disabled. Other than the lights not being on and cruise control not working the car behaved normally.
When I backed my car into my garage the error cleared and the gear indicator and transmission lights turned back on when I put it in reverse. I dont trust that the issue is fixed but if anyone might know of a connector that might be loose that deals with sending signals to the ecu about the transmission shifter position I might crawl under the car and see what I can see before I bring it into GM to let them poke around. I just need to know what I should look for.
