Page 76 in the infotainment manual says:
"Using the “Dial” or “Call” Command
Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) Tones
The in-vehicle Bluetooth system can send numbers during a call. This is used when calling a menu-driven phone system.
1. Press the PHONE screen button.
2. While in the Call View, press the up arrow to raise the interaction selector.
3. Select KEYPAD and enter the number"

If you have phone numbers stored (see manual) by a name like "Joe" just press the On Star talk icon button on the mirror and when prompted say "call". You will then be asked for a name. Say "Joe".
If you haven't stored phone numbers with a name do this: press the On Star talk icon button on the mirror and when prompted say "Dial". You will then be asked for a number. Then say the phone number you want to call.

seems to me.....in the case of the OP. what he truly needs to do it pull over off the road and make the call. and use the key pad as mentioned in a previous post.
for the others.....if your phone is paired.....you can connect to your phones phonebook and access every singe phone number you have. all you need to do is to hit the PHONE CALL button on the steering wheel, when it ask you want you want to do, you say Call "the persons name" and it dials the number.....its that easy.

As TonyforC7 suggested, I tired the push-to-talk button and it did work. A little clunky because it cuts off the audio and says something like "dial" so you don't quite know if you are hitting the numbers in time, but it does work. Good enough for hitting an extension number or a voice mail prompt.

Yes, you agree with someone that made a comment which had nothing to do with the original question. I was talking about OnStar calling, not using a personal phone through the bluetooth interface.

You said it was a dumb question, now you got some dumb answers.

jay, it has EVERYTHING to do with the original question.....if you are driving down the road trying to manipulate buttons on a key pad to make your call.....you need to be off the road and in park.
AND
it makes no difference where you are using your paired phone, or the onstar phone interface......the statement stands and is correct.

Yup. Wasn't talking about your answer. That's a useful shortcut to remembering numbers with OnStar by using the name. Didn't answer my original question about hitting digits during a call, but it is a useful tip.

It makes a big difference because OnStar Hands-Free calling doesn't have a keypad. Its only voice input. Which is why I asked the question about how to enter digits during a call. The problem and answer has nothing to do with whether or not the car is moving.

To answer your original "dumb" question.....you can't.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE: to make the type of call you are talking about, where you need to make selections, you need to pull off the road and use the key pad.

And yet, if you had read the response from TonyforC7, and my follow-up post when I tried his suggestion, you would know that you can.
Thanks again to TonyforC7 for actually reading the question and being helpful.
so why are you continuing this?? is it just so you can proclaim that you can??
great......you can.....big deal......hope your happy and it makes you feel better.
I am a big enough man to know and admit I made a mistake......sorry.....its not the first time in my life and certainly won't be my last. Its how you learn.
