Default Retooling for 2016 models

If there will be few significant changes to the 2016 models would it be reasonable to assume the factory will literally start building 2016 models on whatever day they set for model changeover? I guess what I am trying to say is that there will be little down time for retooling at the plant in BG. Does anyone know the date that the 2016 models will begin production? I heard a rumor it was June 20.

As I recall, there were the last few 2014 Stingrays and the first few 2015 Stingrays coming down the line at the same time last year, wasn't there?

Last year, 2015 production actually started a day or two earlier than anticipated. Like last year, there will be no downtime for retooling.

Bowling Green Assembly Plant Tour Blackout Dates (note there is no shutdown other than Holiday periods):

April 3, 2015
May 25, 2015
July 3, 2015
September 7, 2015
November 16, 2015
November 26 - 27, 2015
December 24 - 25, 2015
December 28 - 31, 2015

I seem to remember the assembly line change-over from the C6 to C7 occurred around the Aug or Sept time frame.

If you look back at the various generations of Corvettes you'll see only minor to moderate changes happen within a particular generation, and I would imagine the C7 won't be any different. And no need to worry about GM re-tooling ahead of time. They're (almost) always ahead of the purchase curve. I remember reading somewhere the initial design plans for the 2014 C7 kicked off around 2007.

The only time they re tool is when they have a generation change and or a frame change. They didnt shut down the plant and re tool for the Z06 did they? It just goes on the same line with the Stingray. 2016 will be a carry over year with only slight modifications. You might see new wheels new colors some new options but thats about it.

Data from my research as per GM update in March 2015.

Last build date for the 2015 is 6-20-2015 (Saturday)

Start date for the 2016 is 6-22-2015 (Monday)

No re-tooling in 1 day (Sunday) tells me no change in body style, or major options that require re-tooling at the BG plant.

That would put them back on the "regular" model year start stop cycle of years past.

They went from a 6 speed to an 8.
That's a big change.
I would suspect they improve it every year like they always have.

I asked Sunny at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant the exact same question. I was told that do not have any scheduled Black Out Dates for retooling. That being said, I was still worried about hitting an August date for R8C on the 2016 model run. If they have ANY restrictions + two week museum prep = I might not get the car on the date I wanted.

So, I went ahead and ordered a 2015 instead. I'd rather have the car now.
