Default How exactly does the allocation process work?

I was at a dealer today and almost put down a deposit but dealer says he won't know until Thursday (I guess this dealer gets to order once a week, is that the same for everybody?) if his allocation is still for 2015s or not, and will need to see if it will include a Z51 due to constraints.

Do the dealers login once a week and get notice of what they are able to order?

Dealers are told before the model year how many units they are expected to order. As the model year progresses this guide number may be adjusted.

Dealers are told every two weeks how many units of their guide number they can prder. This is called allocated units.

Dealers order every week based on the number of allocated units they are allowed.

If a dealer does not use an allocated unit, that unit will be offered to other dealers. This procedure is used to keep the factory working productively.

If a dealer declines to use a weekly allocation, and another dealer takes it, the first dealer will lose that allocation in the next model year and the dealer who takes it will likely get it in the next model year.

Constraints affect an individual order but not the number of orders and trying to account for them will hurt your head but not affect the ongoing process.

Chevy dealers use this process for all of their vehicle lines, trucks, cars, or anything in between. Many use this system without understanding it but all use it or stop being Chevrolet dealers.

If this is the case, then shouldn't this dealer know if he can order me one next week?

Depends on what you want to order. So the answer could be yes or no. Check out the pinned thread on constraints too. It might be helpful. Good luck.

Next week is the LAST week for 2015 orders.....so yes, he should know if he has an allocation.

That said, apparently there is a process where a dealer can request an allocation, via his regional sales rep, when he doesn't have one in the normal process. Conceivably he could get one that another dealer has lost. I experienced this when I ordered my '08. My local dealer didn't have a regular allocation but told me he had already requested a special one but wouldn't know if he got it until the day before ordering. I didn't want to take a chance so I ordered from a Forum dealer. As it turned out my local dealer did get that allocation, ordered the same time I did and his car, for stock, came in one week before mine, and he was doing the courtesy delivery for mine.
