Default C7 paint run - recommendations please.

My C7 was museum delivered with a paint run on the very edge of the lower passenger rear wheel opening (see photo). Its difficult to see but is obvious if one gets up close to it.

I took the car to my local Chevrolet dealer and they advised that the fix could be more noticeable than the current problem. Difficult to match the paint exactly. I took it to another body shop which the company I work for sends all insurance claims to and which has performed work on my personal cars and they are considered the best in the area. And they said the same thing, the run is in the paint and if they performed the work it may be very difficult to match it exactly.

Both shops were basically saying that if it was their car they would leave it alone. But like many Corvette owners I'm an **** person and it bothers to me to know that the car was delivered this way and I do not have any one locally who feels it can be patched correctly.

I need help in how to resolve this issue. Should I request that the whole rear panel be repainted, would that be a better option than trying to patch the small run? But should or would the warranty cover it?

I just cannot forget about it, others may be able to do this and my wife thinks I'm crazy, but when you pay this much money for a car or anything else for that matter, you do not expect to have a quality issue like this.

Thanks for any input.

It looks like it could be wet sanded with a very fine 800 grit sand paper and buffed out? If not it will probably have to be clear coated again. Not a big deal by any means.

I find it incredibly hard to believe they can't match brand-new Corvette paint panel to panel.. I've never seen it where it can't be matched so far. Try some more shops.

Agree with Joeking buff it. It is most likely in the clear coat not the color. With a magnifying glass they should be able to tell. If its the clear it could be sanded with very fine paper and hand buffed. Find an independent shop that does more of custom paint work. NOT shops recommended by the cheap *** insurance co's wrong direction buddy.

Good luck or bring it to Syracuse NY I will do it my self! We paint 1,000 a year!

Both body shops advised that the run was in the paint and not the clear coat.

Next time I'm in the Syracuse, NY area I will stop by. Its hard to find shops that you can trust with these cars.

I have a small paint run on my (early) 2014. I chose to ignore it. Now I can't remember where it is (really).

I am a little superstitious and worry that when I make minute improvements to my car like this it is that panel that will get "hit" somehow. Just saying......

Finally, my C6 got really hit about 5 weeks before I took delivery of my C7. Body shop matched paint exactly (really) on replaced LF fender and buffed hood for me so new paint matched old paint perfectly. If you decide to fix your paint run a good shop will make it go away like it was never there.

It's not just Corvette panels or paint.
The trouble is that the computer matches the colors. The computer is not perfect. Then you have to adjust between shades. And everyone sees color different. The same batch on an entire car looks the same. Any match unless very lucky or unless very skilled will show. Period. You just have to know what you are looking at.

I would live with the run on this car and drive it. If the run was clear you could fix it I believe by sanding and polishing it out. If it is in the color coat not so much.

I have been down the they can match it road, they tried 4 times, this guys shop says they cannot. (edit:Not on my Vette)

My shop matches C7's all the time. Its not hard at all on a new car....

countless people here start out with " "I hope it's fine at the body shop"

and post after..."I can't tell a diff.."

Also to add I can not really see it in picture. I would rather have a factory run than a botched repair. Be happy drive it.

Can anyone recommend a paint shop in the Frederick MD, Baltimore MD, Harrisburg, PA, or Winchester VA areas?
