I'm there with you. My understanding is there are a couple of factors such as getting enough cars to fill the train, where the train is going and maybe some weather impacts, although that one is iffy to me. It's less likely that a shortage of rail cars is a factor, but I suppose is a possiblity.
Where is your car headed? Mine goes to Seattle, born on date 3/24. We're you TPW 3/23 too?
Mine has been in Toledo since March 18th. I really think Chevrolet needs to rethink the whole ship by rail approach. It's not like these are $20k Kia's.
Those impacted by rail shipping might find the following Automotive News article an interesting read: Are railroads snubbing autos?
Some quotes:
About 70 percent of new vehicles are moved by rail, according to the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a trade group representing 12 automakers.
But railroads have been unable -- or unwilling -- to keep up with increases in automotive production since the 2008-09 recession.
Meanwhile, increased demands from shippers of commodities such as grain, coal and oil have competed for limited rail capacity. Rail shipments of crude oil, for example, rose to 415,000 carloads in 2013 from 9,500 in 2008, according to annual reports compiled by the Surface Transportation Board.
Other high dollar vehicles ship by rail:
The M Class starts at $48,000 and can easily top $110,000.

Good article. Thanks for posting. This helps to explain some of the delays. However, all the more reason Chevrolet should rethink the whole ship by rail philosophy. Just increase the price of the car by $184 for those going to the west coast. I, as well as others would be more than willing to pay an extra $184 to ship by truck.
He said that since January, one automaker, which he declined to identify, had spent an additional $13 million to ship about 70,000 vehicles -- or about $184 more per vehicle -- from one of its assembly plants by car hauler instead of by rail.
Is Norfolk Southern the transporter? If not who has the contract with GM? Maybe a group effort to address the issue on their web media sites would help to find a few additional rail cars. Cannot imagine that we are expected to take these delays without some push back.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but my car was built 2/24 and I just got it two days ago. Raiderboy has been waiting even longer than that. You are looking at 2 to 3 weeks in Toledo and then another 2 to 3 weeks for shipping if you're coming out west. It's a Sh$&@ty process!!!

Automobile makers must charge the same delivery charge regardless of where it is being shipped in the U.S. They cannot charge more to ship to the West coast. They would have to eat that cost difference.

No. CSX from Toledo for East Coast and west to Chicago area where they then transfer the cars to the Union Pacific Railroad.
There is already pressure on the railroads:
The data are expected to show whether rail cars loaded with autos are sitting idle while rail cars loaded with oil, coal or other profitable commodities are moving toward their destinations.
On Oct. 8, the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, which regulates the nation's railroads, ordered the reports after complaints from shippers -- including automakers -- that their goods were being unduly delayed.
The reports will detail the amounts of cargo moved in different types of rail cars, as well as information on delays in departure and delivery, sorted by train type and industry, among other things. The reports will be available on the board's website, stb.dot.gov.

All the better. Raise the price of the car by $92 for all and that should cover the extra cost.

Hey raiderh20boy, just received email from the dealer....he got word from the 'fulfillment center' stating my corvette was put on a train today and should be here in about a week!! Not sure if I believe it, but contact your dealer today, hopefully you are on the same train!
One of the problems affecting this is lack of pipeline infrastructure, forcing oil companies to use trains to ship their product, tying up railcars.
Obama's refusal to sign off on the Keystone pipeline is a key factor. Not the only one, but an important one. That pipeline should have been built years ago, but Obama and his enviro nutjob buddies of his has made a bad siruation even worse.

your right, they should ship each one by air? or perhaps a large drone can drop it off in your driveway.
Settle down, it's a car. And as special as they are to some, they are just but one of many many things that are shipped by rail in this country.
Not a kia. hahahah yeah maybe. But it's shipped the same way as a chevy malibu.
