I've been doing it all my life. My car before the C7 was a 2006 Mustang GT. There's not a ding on it. Note a mark anywhere. I find the furthest parking spots away from everything and always straddle two spaces. No one seemed to mind, or if they did, at least they didn't key the Mustang. I've only had the Vette two weeks, and it attracts a lot more attention than the Mustang ever did. I can't imagine how anyone could maliciously vandalize a car for taking two spots when there is plenty of parking, but I know it happens. Remember the Saturn commercial where a Saturn is the only car in a huge parking lot and another car enters the lot and parks so close that the driver hits the Saturn's door exiting his car. This happened to me and ever since then I straddle two spots.

You are looking for trouble by doing that. Just a matter of time before trouble finds you. By parking in 2 spots you are in essence announcing that you are special and that ticks off some people. And some of these people are sick enought to key your car as a result-all it takes is one nut.
There are going to be people on here and out there in the world that are going to lose their mind over you even mentioning the fact that you take two spots.....
With the way you described the way you park (bum €^ck Egypt) I really don't see any issue with it and it shouldn't warrent any damage to your Vette.
I don't take two spots, but do park out in BFE when it comes to any of my (nice to me) cars. My truck..... It was made to take the beating so it's parked anywhere.
I park out in BFE to protect my car, but I never use two spaces...ever. I have had kids park really close to me but never hurt the car, they just do it , well...just because. I, too, once had a 2006 Mustang GT that was cared for, but like my Corvette it never covered the line, nor did it have a mark on it.
Park in the boonies, but just use one space. Thanks.
[QUOTE=mikez06;1589428463]Are you expecting approval for doing so?
It's people like you who DO get our cars keyed!
I usually leave a note on cars like this "You get
a pass this time but next time you take two spaces its
going to get keyed. License Plate.#####" I never key
anybody nor would I because it always works...though
a blue Vette may be the exception next time I'm in
Atlanta. It is people like this that make it worse for the
rest of us !

Actually I can easily imagine it. There are plenty of envious idiots out there who really want your can and can't afford it...and instead of just admiring it, they will be thinking "I'm going to stick it to that rich b8$t8rd". Taking two spots will actually attract such people.
I do park far out. I do try to park at the right end of a row so that at most I will only have a car on the left side. I such a spot I will edge as far to the right of the spot s possible while staying inside the lines. For most cars that might park on my left, this usually gives enough room where if they haven't done too horrendous a parking job I'll be OK.
In 14 years of ownership of my C5 I never had it dinged in a parking lot.
If you are already far away from everyone else, why take 2 spots. You are more likely to upset someone and get keyed taking 2 spots than you are of someone parking too close to you that far out. What happened to you years ago will probably never happen again.
I park far away, but on an end spot and I tuck it in so close to the curb that someone would literally have to park way over the line just to get next to me.
Jerks that get a kick out of pissing someone off by parking too close prefer to make it "look like" they just nonchalantly parked too close by accident. They can't do that if you are far away, tucked close to the curb but still within the lines. In order to get close enough to your car to **** you off they'd have to make it look ridiculously, blatantly obvious that was their intention. They won't do it. At least not that far away from all the other cars.

First of all, you're not keeping anyone from parking next to you. You're making a statement to which someone may respond by parking right beside you, or worse. Find an end spot and park as close to the curb as you can. That leaves only one protected side and doesn't **** anyone off.
No one wants to get their car damaged regardless of what they drive.
I certainly do what I can to protect every car I have from door ding. Usually parking far away from the crowds and using only one space has worked for me over the last 30 years or so. I'd rather walk an extra hundred feet (or yards) rather than lament a door ding because I was too lazy to walk.
I think by straddling two spots you could invite trouble where otherwise you'd be overlooked if using one space.
There are some people that will see that as an invitation to snuggle up next to your car with their rust-bucket pickup truck just to spite you (and hope you confront them). Heck I've seen them purposely park next to car parked in the "north 40" just to be nasty.
Even if you don't straddle two places some a$$hat will park next to you in BFE just because they can. You call unnecessary attention to yourself by parking away from everyone.
Here's a tip: cars with composite panels don't ding. Worry about scrapes and chips. Hide in plain sight by parking in a wider space or edge seat with the crowd.
Just use your head: Try to find well kept cars as their drivers are more likely to be careful around your car. Also two seaters typically don't have kids (who tend to be careless or have preoccupied moms. You don't want momma cow swinging her blingy saddle bag into your car while she tries to herd in all the little guys.

Amen... I always have lived by the axiom "If you put yourself (or your car, in this case) in a bad place or position, bad stuff will happen"
