I have a scratch on the drivers side window and was blaming it on the body shop(someone backed into my drivers door in Dec.). The body shop said he called a Chevy dealer and found out there was a recall for vertical scratches but mine is horizontal. I am waiting for my chevy dealer to look into it and call me back, but they haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone else heard something?
the vertical scratches may be referring to something inside the door causing the scratches when going up and down, but thats a recall on the parts causing the scratches, and replacing the window as well. Horizontal scratches are not cause by other parts that i can fathom...
If the horizontal scratch is not too deep, you can try buffing out the scratch using "Cerium Oxide". "Cerium Oxide" is a powder that is mixed into a paste form then applied to the scratch using a buffing wheel to remove the scratch. I have used Ceruim Oxide with great success on glass.
I would do this application if the dealer is not willing to replace the glass, which I doubt they will.
Just google "Ceruim Oxide" and you will find many ideas on how to repair the glass. Don't settle for any other powder or paste other than Ceruim Oxide.
I just talked to the guy at the body shop and he said that it wasn't a recall but this Chevy dealer would replace the window under warranty; that's not what he told me. I don't know how this dealer will do it under warranty, but I'm taking the car to my dealer and see what they say.
