Historically, Camaro always got engines from Corvette. Last couple of times I remember was 2008 Corvette LS3 showing up in 2010 Camaro. And then recently the Z/28 with LS7 engine from C6-Z06.
So, is this the LT1 engine going to Camaro? Yes, de-tuned and all that, but if so, isn't it too early for the king's engine being borrowed?
With those Tri-Y Exhaust headers, the Camaro forum is saying 465 to 475 horsepower. Not enough room for those in a C7.
Going to be interesting.
I just do not see them putting more HP in the Camaro than is advertised in the Corvette. I may be wrong, but time will tell.
I have a 2013 Camaro 2SS/RS 1LE and it is definitely a bad boy...517 rwhp.

GM may not advertise Camaro HP higher than Corvette but they will make sure it is competitive with the Mustang.

I absolutely agree with you there. The Camaro added the 1LE track performance package when the Boss 302 came back and the 1LE ran circles around the Boss. The Camaro is actually a very impressive vehicle. You expect it from the Corvette, but not so much the Camaro. I don't like the looks of the Camaro without the upgraded suspension on the 1LE and ZL1 and the Z28 in my opinion, is just not versatile enough for a regular car.
Can you tell the difference between 420 and 450 horsepower?
Probably not.
Right, but I think it's the pschological aspect of Camaro owners saying "my car has more hp than a Corvette" and the Corvette owners saying "can't believe the camaro has more hp than a Corvette."
The weight different is the factors that affects it the most I would think.

GM doesn't work like that anymore.
The new CEO has made one comment. "No more crappy cars"........ all brands and model lines are now supposed to be the very best they can be.
GM will not likely do anything to protect a perceived "king".....fact is you've already seen a Camaro that had development ideas that matched that of the best Corvettes in the Z/28.
The OLD thinking no longer applies. Clearly GM wants all of it's cars at the highest potential they can achieve....... if the Camaro team of engineers gets uncomfortably close to the Corvette.......that's the Corvette designer's problem to overcome.
Competition is no longer just between brands....... it now happens between models under the same brand at GM.
Corvette still enjoys a substantial advantage anyway. A higher price point and the two seat design makes for what is just about certain to always be the lighter car and that higher price point allows for the use of more expensive......well..... what-ever it takes to make the car go, turn and stop.
But engine sharing shouldn't surprise you at all in this new environment where the only rule from above is, "No more crappy cars!"
Since the 6.2 truck already makes 420 I'd bet the Camaro will have more. My guess is 450hp 460 torque and 27-28 mpg hiway 8 speed auto 7 speed manual. SS will probably be in the 3650 lbs range. V6 probably about the same with a bump in mpg maybe 31 hiway. Don't care about a 4 banger but I'm sure we'll see one.
SS>GT
1LE>GT track pack
Z28> GT350
650hp ZL1 = GT500. Both will be much better track cars than the Hell Cat but slower 1/4miles times.
