Default OnStar Basic Plan Problem

I let the OnStar upgraded plans that came with the car for the first 6 months expire last week, keeping just the Basic plan, which is good for 5 years.

Today I used the OnStar app to look at the Vehicle Status (which should be still accessible on the Basic plan) and received a message that I needed to upgrade plans for this feature.

I called OnStar customer service and they claim this is a technical glitch in their software that should be resolved in 24 hours.

Has anyone else encountered this "glitch" or is it a marketing ploy to get one to upgrade under false pretenses. Seems strange that the glitch happened a couple of days after my plan went to Basic.

5 years of the Basic plan is included in the price of the vehicle.

The basic plan I have my vech's on is called 'Safe & Sound' usually ~$15/month, I got for $9. The remote link gives vech diag but no location of vech. The remote will say that to get location you must upgrade. We track our Android cells using 'Real Time GPS Tracker' for no cost.

OnStar RemoteLink Key Fob Services

An active OnStar Directions & Connections or Safe & Sound service plan is required to access most RemoteLink features.

RemoteLink Key Fob Services, including Remote Start, Remote Door Lock and Remote Horn and Lights, for five years from date of vehicle delivery.

OnStar RemoteLink Key Fob Services do not include any emergency services, Automatic Crash Response, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, live Advisor service, or Hands-Free Calling. If you sell your GM vehicle or wish to cancel use of OnStar Key Fob Services, you must contact OnStar at 1.888.4.ONSTAR. Subsequent owners will be able to activate the remaining term of the Key Fob Services by calling 1.888.4.ONSTAR.

When OnStar RemoteLink Key Fob Services are active, location information is collected each time you use the app.

But according to OnStar Customer Service and https://www.onstar.com/us/en/services/diagnostics.html the Vehicle Diagnostics are included with the Basic plan for 5 years. I asked specifically if that included the RemoteLink Vehicle Status Diagnostics features and was told "yes, but it is currently broken in the software and will be fixed soon -- hopefully within about 24 hours".

But OnStar's customer service doesn't have a stellar reputation...

I believe we reading same book but maybe we are on different pages.

Vehicle Diagnostics and RemoteLink Vehicle Status are two different things.

Vehicle diagnostics are part of Onstar basic. But unless something has changed in the past week or two, RemoteLink Vehicle Status is not.

Vehicle diagnostics are done from inside the vehicle by pressing the talking man onstar button. They will connect to the car and run a diagnostic. They also perform a remote diagnostic scan once a month. This is concerning DTCs and emissions systems primarily.

The Remote Link Vehicle Status shows fuel levels, miles to empty, etc... They are two very different services.


I am reading while between clients. So I apologize if I've miss interpreted what anyone has said or asked.
