My Torch Red Z51 arrived at the dealership on Friday and I am very happy with the paint. I could not see any OP at all! I was concerned about the paint before I saw it but am happy with it
Very generic news report - to assume that this means the quality of the paintwork in Bowling Green is going to improve is a bit of a reach in my opinion.
From the years of reading on here from those in the paint industry, this is not an easy task---to solve the paint issues of steel cars, let alone the more issue-prone SMC cars. If GM does it for steel cars, it will be practically an industry-first in cooperation with the tool mfrs. and the paint mfrs. The smaller numbers of " 'glass" cars almost makes it unrealistic to try for it. jmo. But one can always hope.
I'd be happy to send my BS coupe back for a redo if they were able to improve the process.
I think part of the process improvement would have to include more paint in the case of BS to avoid the mottling I see in mine. I would have paid the premium they get for some other colors to be assured of a good job.

My sentiments exactly. The car is selling too well, the financial guys atGM are happy, and not that many people are bitching about it outside the forums. The only way it'll ever change is if everybody starts to go to the dealership bitch about it and GM start replacing parts… Then the financial guys will make a decision to either spend the money and clear it up or not

The problem is that everybody needs transportation. Less than 2% of the population can "afford" to go into a dealer and say "the paint on these cars is unacceptable so I won't buy one from you or any other dealer until it gets fixed". So, people buy them and deal with it. Only way this will change is if we ALL stop buying cars until its fixed really. Its a vicious circle LOL
Ain't gonna' happen. The cost to make robotics "see" where to adapt extra or less spray, adjust for humidity or any of the other dozen things necessary for a good paint job will be to costly.
And as FYREANT said only way it's going to happen is if everyone stops buying cars, or if everyone takes there cars back and demands that the paint be corrected

Of course that's the case, and I was not implying that this is viable method of action, Just making the point that until warranty starts throwing a flag that they are replacing a lot, nothing will transpire - polish it up and live with it or let a body shop fix.....
They clearly know they have a problem, just no $$$$ approved to rework their paint process.....
