Default Long Beach Red

Were did the name come from, the picture above is of a trolley apparently called the Long Beach red car. Not sure how it matches the new color but I believe we now Know the source of the name. Here is a link: http://www.portoflosangeles.org/recr...rfront_rcl.asp.

The second pict is from a posting on another Vette forum by Mike Furman from Criswell Chevy Md. It shows the difference between the 2006 Monty Red and the new 2016 Long Bch Red, Thanks Mike

So now I have a question for you experts: What is the difference between a Metallic and a Tint coat? In the new order guide it refers to this new color as:

(G1E) Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat.

My buddy and I went to a local Chevy dealer today in search of the new G1E. Best we could find was the 2015 Chevy Cruze color brochure showing it as Siren Red Tintcoat. On that brochure it also showed several other colors but they had a mixture of nomenclatures; some Metallic and others Tintcoat. So what is the difference?

Metallic paints have metallic flakes in the base coat. Tintcoat refers to a clear coat that is tinted. There is actually some color to the "clear coat". This article shows what happens when buffing single stage, clear coat and tint coat paints. http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/...dded-dirt.html

Currently Long Beach Red is at the top of my list for 2017. Wanted this metallic red color since 2006, couldn't get myself to pay the premium price. Think I will finally pay the price, nothing else sparks my interest.

Thanks Zymurgy, that was informative. So from the name in the order guide this new color is a true metallic paint with a tintcoat clear?

Same as my Monterey Red!

Yep. It is definitely metallic and is listed as a tintcoat. From the pics I have seen, it is very close to Monterey Red Metallic, but perhaps a little lighter/brighter color.

I had a Monterey Red C6. Sold it when I got my C7.

Name comes from the Long Beach ALMS/TUDOR races where the Corvettes have had much success over recent history. Corvettes have had a history of having color names with race track venues in the name.

True. In the 1960's and early 70's most Corvette colors were named for racetracks, even some tracks that weren't very well known. Racetrack-named colors started appearing again in the late 1990's, there have been quite a few since then.

Since 1999 Corvette has always offered a tri coat / tint coat metallic red. Magnetic > Magnetic II > Monterey > Crystal > Long Beach. At extra cost of $500 > $600 > $750 > $850 > $995. Crystal red was the longest-running; after 8 years GM probably decided it was time for a change.

The yellows have never been metallic but all other extra cost and tintcoat colors have had metallic in the basecoats.

I know those of you who are intrested have seen the recent bash picts of this new color. Here are two "field" shots of the G1E on a Buick next to my 2006 Monterey Red daily driver. Keep in mind my car is dirty and has a clear bra and the Buick Rental is swirl heaven.

The pictures don't open big enough to see them up close.

My brother-in-law has a 2014 Blade and lives in the same neighborhood so having two in the same family was not gonna happen. But know this it was my 2nd choice.

My car was going to be gray, but when the day came to finalize the order I had placed, I looked at the Crystal Red 09 I was driving and decided I liked red better.
