Bluetooth help

While the Bluetooth is on in my others cars I can hear the alert on my phone when I get an email or text. I can then pull over to look at the message/email if I chose. With my C7 I can't hear any alerts if the Bluetooth is on. I'm too lazy to read the manual. Any thoughts
