Cracked windshield
I took it to Safelight, and they did it in their shop (they told me they couldn't do it at my home, because of all the stuff they had to peel away, and it takes longer than the average window (2 hrs).
They did a meticulous job, and I'm happy with it, and believe you me, I was nervous and skeptical! USAA would only pay for after-market HUD, but Safelight guaranteed that it would be optically pure, and they delivered.
As far as insurance covering OEM HUD windows, that is up to your insurance company; most won't replace the windshield with OEM for more than two years from new. After that, after-market is all they will cover. Mine is optically pure , and looks as good as the OEM windshield did. It is about a $500 dollar difference, BTW.
I lowered the top so as to give easier access. The C7 is very stiff, so it really shouldn't make any difference if the top is on/up or off/down. Not like the C6.
