They didn't replace mine. The windshield they had (Not OEM), had some distortion to it (like a fun house effect) so they were going to have to order one through GM and try again next week hopefully.

I see your top is removed, read here where advise was to leave roof on to aid the install/allingment. What is your viewpoint?
Thanks.

The installer asked it to be removed. He had to access the top of the windshield to break the seal. Also made it easier to remove the mirror and upper trim pieces.

I got a small rock hit right at the junction between the A pillar and the windshield (ding on both surfaces) at the point of cracking in this pic. It took about 15 minutes to crack (the first two inches happened instantaneously at that point), and it took another couple of hours to finish the crack.

I took it to Safelight, and they did it in their shop (they told me they couldn't do it at my home, because of all the stuff they had to peel away, and it takes longer than the average window (2 hrs).

They did a meticulous job, and I'm happy with it, and believe you me, I was nervous and skeptical! USAA would only pay for after-market HUD, but Safelight guaranteed that it would be optically pure, and they delivered.

As far as insurance covering OEM HUD windows, that is up to your insurance company; most won't replace the windshield with OEM for more than two years from new. After that, after-market is all they will cover. Mine is optically pure , and looks as good as the OEM windshield did. It is about a $500 dollar difference, BTW.

I lowered the top so as to give easier access. The C7 is very stiff, so it really shouldn't make any difference if the top is on/up or off/down. Not like the C6.
