Default Transmission Lunging

Tadge,

Thanks for the opportunity to that allow us to share our concerns. I've owned five Vettes in 30 yrs. I have recently purchased my 2015 Z51. My 50th is covered in the garage waiting for my daughter to get a little older. So, I'm coming with experience and rare disappointment.

My C7 isn't driven much- not daily. After it sits for a few days, 50% of the time when I put it in reverse to back out of the garage, the car doesn't move. I can put it back in park, drive, back in reverse, etc...

However, when it eventually "kicks in" reverse, my Vette lunges backwards and the sound is terrifying.

I've heard several "horror" stories about "updates," "solenoid," "GM experiments," and "replacements." However, I'm not sure what to believe.

Any insight? Trend? Replications?

Thanks,
RoyC7

This will probably be better served here in the C7 section. I'd recommend taking your car to the dealer to get some general troubleshooting done first. Asking the Corvette VLE about specific car issues like this isn't really what "Ask Tadge" was designed for.

A couple of possibilities you might consider, if not these visit the dealer. First, a poster mentioned he had trouble backing out after he washed the car and had it parked. Perhaps the parking brake shoes or even the pads are sticking to the rotor.
Second, I have a manual but have tried a few times to see if my electric parking brake would automatically release as I back out of the garage, as I believe it is supposed to. It has a once or twice but takes a lot of force and once it stalled so I gave up. Have had the same thing occur when moving forward where for sure it is supposed to automatically release. It often did not so I always release the parking brake manually, no big deal.
Could be your parking brake is sticking and not releasing as it should. Remember you need to have your brake pedal depressed to have it release.

Probably not the transmission, sounds like the electronic parking brake. As mentioned, depress the brake pedal first or just manually release the parking brake.

I don't put my car in gear when I park so always use the electronic parking brake. From time to time I release it manually as my seat is moving forward and my foot is not fully depressing the brake peddle. Find out the brake did not release only when I engage the clutch! As mentioned mine does not automatically release so I have to press the foot brake and press the brake switch down again!
