Do you cover your C7 in the garage? Someone told me the fabric on the covers can actually effect the paint, creating micro scratches or wear the life of the paint down quicker than if you didn't cover it.

Living here in the great white Northeast, land of salt and traction stones, my C7 is covered from the first flake until the roads are cleaned (swept off with a sweeper or a bunch of heavy rain).

I have been using car covers for my weekend rides for over 25 years.

I buy a quality cover (Covercraft) made for a specific purpose. For me, it is indoor use only for the C7. The car is not covered if left outside or sitting in a Hotel parking lot on a trip. When I was on the show car circuit, I would have both an indoor and outdoor (think gortex) cover.

DO not use an indoor cover outdoors, especially if rain is expected or in high wind where the cover will "buffet" around.

I have never experienced any scratches, etc from having a cover on a car. The key is to DO NOT COVER A CAR THAT IS NOT SQUEEKY CLEAN. Putting a cover on a "dirty" car is where the scratches and other stuff comes from....once the cover has been on a dirty car, it either needs to be washed or replaced.

Just my two cents.....since you asked, strictly my opinion from my life experiences.

Buy a quality cover and only put it on a clean car.

I do not use a cover any longer. I did for a couple of years but found just sliding the cover around to get it on the car can create some imperfections to the paint.
Now I just dust it off each day with a California Duster.
In the Winter it just sits in the garage no cover, light cleaning in the Spring and good to go.

Yes, all my premium sports cars are constantly covered while parked in the garage. As in post #2 by 3rail, if the car is dirty or dusty, they don't get covered until washed.

I have experienced NO scratches in the paint surface on any of my vehicles (3 get covered). I find covering the car in the garage, eliminates dust, and if anything gets on the car it is protected.

Since I live in southern New Mexico where we have great weather year round, I take the removable top off the C7 allot. I can park the car into the garage, cover it with the top off and the interior is protected.

I would NOT be without a car cover since I own these premium cars. Car covers can cost from $30.00 to well over $400. Since I park the car and cover it, I like the larger cover that fits easy.

The Corvette C7 cover however came with the car OEM GM, and fits like a glove.

While some owners of cars may feel that it is a PITA to cover the car and remove the cover, keep in mind it just takes a minute to cover or uncover a car. I remove the cover by lifting each side into the middle than roll the cover up from the rear to the front. Easy off, easy on.

eBay sells some great covers in all price ranges.

The Red cover in the photo is the OEM GM Coverking made cover. Under the Gray cover sits a rare 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible. The Gray cover is a $45.00 car cover. My Porsche 981 is parked in my other garage and also covered with just a $55.00 cover.

Covers don't scratch cars

Dirt/Dust and Pollen on the car when you put a cover on it, scratches
the car.

If your car is clean when you cover it, it won't scratch.

Another thing people forget - the cover itself picks up dirt, dust and
pollen. If you don't keep your cover clean, the dust/dirt/pollen on
the cover will scratch

I cover my cars when they will sit for long periods of time (like the
winter) or when I take them on road trips and the car will be outside
in adverse weather. Day to day or week to week when I normally drive
the car, it stays uncovered...

Regards
Chip

The six months I get that I can drive my car when I want it, it never gets covered in garage.

The six months that it sits because of the weather up here in upper NYS it gets covered and the tender is put on. Been doing it this way for over 20 years!

FWIW I use a heavy outdoor type cover(California cover) as the oversized garage is also a work shop and it protects from bumps & thumps by kids, animals when winter projects are being worked on.

Default make your own

Sew a couple of large sheets together.

Makes a simple lightweight cover that can be washed easily.

Just pick a really soft material and as said don't cover a dirty car.

This is not a perfect solution as it won't cover the entire car down the sides but it does help keep the garage dust and pollen off the car.
