Used my tire Road Hazard policy today...
Bought my awesome C7 vert Z51 6 months ago at Classic Chevy in SW Houston.
My salesman, Joe M. was great.
In the finance office, I balked at the $400 price of the 5 yr tire road hazard policy. But jumped on it when he lowered it to $200.
Last night, I heard a loud pop, then limped then last 10 blocks home to see that I had 1" bolt sticking out of my rear right tire. Pressure dropped to 22 lbs.
I called the Classic's Service dept at 8:30am Sat morning, service advisor Irma, asked for last 8 numbers of my VIN, she confirmed I had the tire policy, went to check that they had 7 of the 20" Michelins in stock.
I limped to the dealer a few miles away.
Irma was going home & passed me to another service advisor, Gordon.
I gave him the wheel lock, also asked for my 2nd free Mobile 1 oil change (almost 5000 miles now). Asked how much for them to replace the K&N air filter that I bought a few wks ago, but hasn't got around to spend 20 - 30 min to change it out yet. He said they'll do it for $25.
Went shopping with the wife at the mall close by.
I came back at 4:45pm, brand new rear tire, oil change completed, K&N air filter replaced.
Total cost: $25
They even gave me 10% military discount, so final cost: $22.50
Gordon showed me that the tire costs $495
Maybe cheaper at local Discount Tires, but still saved on 8.25% sales tax & other mounting fees.
I asked the service manager what if I was traveling & had tire problems out of town/state?
He says that the tire policy insuring company will honor the replacement at any GM/Chevy dealer in the country. Good to know.
I'm extremely happy to have bought that tire road hazard policy, esp for $200 !!!

Money well spent on the policy. Only takes one mishap to pay for itself.

$400 seems like a great price ($200 is amazing)....my BMW cost me $750 for 3 years....they initially started at $2200....I said no several times before I finally bought it for $750. It has more than paid for itself, 5 tires and 2 wheels in 3 yrs.....

Stories like this are causing me to rethink my position on "tire insurance".

Glad you got coverage as you expected.
If you’ve ever worked on a modern car tire carcass and see how tough they are, it’s amazing that a bolt could penetrate a run flat. Everything must have wound up perfectly but unfortunately for the owner. Don

Is there something about run-flats or low profile tires that make them more susceptible to road hazards? I would normally not think twice about gambling by not purchasing road hazard insurance. In 40 years of driving, I've never had a flat on the road. Have had a couple of nails/screws in tires causing slow leaks, but that's it.

I've had small nails penetrated the tires before.
But this was a bolt 1" long & 1/2" wide treads with a 1/2" cap that stuck out another 1/2" thick/deep.
It was an 1" near the tire sidewall.
Service advisor took one second to determine that it's a done deal replacement.
But only 4 1/2 yrs left on the policy...

It almost exactly the same as my previous C5 Navy Blue Metallic vert yrs ago, except no more black interior in hot Houston...
