Windshield Chip
I was driving the C7 over the weekend and had a rock hit the windshield. There was a very loud crack, but I didn't see any visible damage. Later, I was washing the car and when I cleaned the windshield I noticed there is a small chip in the glass. There isn't any star like you normally get, it's just a small divot in the first layer of glass. You can't really tell its a chip until you poke at it with your fingernail. Is it likely to spread and can it be repaired if there is no visible crack through the glass?

Most insurance companies waive the deductible for chip repairs, because they would rather pay for that than a new windshield. Which is probably what you'll need if you don't get it repaired. Yes, it's likely to spread, especially if you encounter significant temperature changes.

I had chips in 2 of my previous Vettes, very very small (dime sized).
Safelite came right out to the house and repaired, could not tell there were any chips at all. Insurance covered them.
Also, though, my dealer (not sure if all Chevrolet dealers) said they also repair chips.
Best get it looked at before it does spread.

Totally ...I had a few tiny rock chips as described above on my 2009 Jaguar XKR and had a chip repair guy fix the 2 chips. No cost to me, he called the insurance compnay on the spot while at their repair station and Safeco stated "no cost". The chip repair guys simply sent the billing to Safeco. I paid nothing and never heard anything from the insurance company.Simply fix, easy solution, and just 15 minutes to repair. The 2 small chips never have spread or moved into a star pattern that we see so many times on chipped glass.

I had a chip "repaired" once. I wasn't happy with the results at all. All they did was kind of fill in the chip with some clear epoxy stuff. You couldn't feel the chip any more but I could always see where it had been. I'd never have that done again. It may keep the chip from spider webbing in to a larger crack but that's about all this repair is good for.
I got a chip a couple of years ago in my C6 ZO6 windshield. I called the insurance company and they said they would replace the windshield free of charge if the damage was large enough that it couldn't be covered by a dollar bill or if it was in the driver's line of sight. It wasn't so I just let it go.
A couple of months later the car was sitting in the sun in a parking lot and when I came out of the store the chip had grown in to a rather large crack. I called the insurance company again and since the crack was larger this time they sent someone out to the house to replace the windshield.
In my opinion this was a lot better than having to look at a chip that had been filled with epoxy.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago on a Thursday afternoon, heard the rock hit the windshield but did not see the damage. Later that evening I saw the spot on the passenger side about 2/3 up and hidden from my view by the rear view mirror. It was a classic bulls eye with one small crack about a half inch wide.
I called my State Farm agent Friday morning and by noon, the repair van came over. It took less then a half hour and afterwards only a very small pin head size mark remained on the windshield, very happy with the results!
I was told that if I was not satisfied they would replace the windshield, but saw no need for that at this time.

COMP claims are not the same as collison claims at all ......
