Default New Engine Replacement experience

Anyone on here that had there c7 engine need a replacement and how did everything go any other problems after that what was the time waitin for the replacement

Dealer called me and said 3 valves are out and pistons are kissing the valves may need replacement If there is bottom end damage ..I kinda like the idear of just rebuilding mind if there isn't internal damage keeping matching number and pretty sure noting will go wrong if they fix everything . A new engine I think will hurt me in the long run what you guys think

Matching numbers won't matter. This car is not a collectible since they make too many. I would also say that since a dealership generally is not in the business of rebuilding engines your likelihood of a successful build is not that high. A new engine that went through the complete build process at the factory with all the automated checks is probably a more reliable engine.

Unless you plan on keeping the car for 30 or 40 years, I would suggest you let them replace the engine instead of a rebuild. Factory warranty replacement does not show up on Carfax. GMVIS will show both rebuild and or replacement.

I had an engine replacement on a 14 and when traded in it was a certified GM car with no indication on Carfax of a problem.

Basically I had multiple problems first Torque Tube, then main bearings so engine replacement, dealer told me if I wanted a 15 I would get a good deal and he lived up to his word so now I have a 15.

I agree. A rebuild, at best, could only be as good as a new engine.

I don't like the dealer changing my oil much less rebuilding my engine. Get a new engine from the factory. Hopefully the dealer can install it correctly and you will have no further problems.

Tell GM to kiss your A$$ go for a buyback. Thats what they get for making faulty engines. Make them exchange the whole car they know darn well they have a bunch of faulty motors out there. Let me guess about 8K miles on the car now?

After that experience, I would not want the car and would be ready to move on.....

what you dnt know is if there are little metal shards that may not get 'cleaned out' during a rebuild.

its under warranty - replace it.

btw, my c-5 had the engine replaced relatively earlty in its life. did not harm it's value.

There is no such thing as numbers matching any more. Unless your state's lemon law applies you really can't demand they take it back or exchange it for a new one. Get the new engine and drive it.

I would deliver the car to the factory on a truck and demand a new vehicle. Have the local news media meet you at the factory door to film your complaint about the engine. The major media outlets will pick it up from their affiliates. That should get their attention.

You're likely to get a better engine direct from GM that from a dealer mechanic. This isn't something dealer mechanics get a lot of experience doing.

OTOH, it was the GM factory that screwed up in the first place....
