I'm worried about whether the Android Auto integration planned for later in the 2016 model year is a software update or hardware change. Would be very upset if I were to order a 2016 now only to find out that the Android Auto requires different hardware and I can't get it.

I would expect it to be software, but certainly can't claim any inside knowledge. Hyundai's already released a software patch to add Android Auto to the new Sonata.

A software update to the C7 system to add a feature would be unprecedented, wouldn't it? That makes me nervous about assuming they can add Android later. Who knows what they will find.

Makes the decision of when to order very difficult. I could order now and get the car delivered a couple months sooner or wait and be sure I get this feature, if they ever figure it out.

Respectfully, sounds like another way for drivers to be distracted instead of paying attention to the road.

To answer the OP question, yes, it is being worked on.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...av-system.html

But it will NOT be cheap, and it remains to be seen if it is worth the cost for what it provides. Possible front camera might be included too possibly.

I would upgrade to carplay if it wasnt too much trouble, but for the most part I'll just use my phone's navigation. (My car has NAV, but it's not quite as nice) But like someone else said, if you are ever somewhere without cell service the downloaded maps on the car will be much more useful than the no signal display on your phone/carplay

Not when the system has a better navigation than factory. Or when it reads your text messages to you!

I like many wish I had the latest gadgets but I think the 5yr powertrain warranty is worth a bit more pre16 than the car play. I do think 600 hp would suit this car nicely though. Had a 996tt modded to around 575-600 and it hauled the mail. The handling of the z51 and brakes for the street are more than adequate for this type of power. Not sure if the driveline and engine want that much load but the car is smooth as glass and the extra scary power would be nice. z06 with 5 yr warranty is probably the safe bet. My 15 z51 is not slow mind you but lots of cars can run low to flat 12's. Once you get in the 11's you start to distance yourself from most on the road. Especially from a roll. Loving my vet though.

Can I ask what hardware changes you are speaking of? All Apple Car Play needs to connect to the device is a Lightning cable via USB. The 2014/15 C7 already have this connect-ability. I'm a pretty big PC guy also. Looks like all is needed for AP to work on the 2014/15 model is a firmware update. Just as easy as updating your phone. If GM doesn't want to dish out an update to its existing customers there is bound to be a 3rd party application, be it public or private, to allow Apple Play.

It does look like they are switching to the capacitive touch screen for multi-touch. This means the touch will no longer work with most gloves, btw, unless they are designed for it as I suspect no driving gloves are.
Please no offense intended... I would bet my a$$ 99% of people on this board would die of abdominal spasms laughing at someone sporting driving gloves...(on the street)

Not a lot of people using work gloves driving a vette and few driving it in cold enough weather to need winter gloves..

Driving gloves....... LMFAO

You make it sound like those are mutually exclusive...

I'm excited about Carplay, I'd also be excited about more power if it happened, or really any improvement to the car. But I'm not waiting for the perfect car from GM because they will constantly improve, there will always be something new. Thats why I got a '14 and have been DD'ing since I got it. Like most people, I'm not Harvey Gluck, I can't get a new one each and every year. That's why I (along with many others) want to figure out retrofits for new features, whatever they may be.

LOL - I totally agree with that - although that said I fully suspect there are some people on here who wear them.

I was thinking of these:

Oh and just to correct that old post - screen didn't change, it is the exact for 16 as 14/15.

My wife stopped at a light in her Ford Edge and some dBag pulled up in a Roush mustang wearing driving gloves.

She couldn't stop laughing!

Actually, from what I've seen, the Apple Car Play and Android Auto interfaces are dramatically better than the GM system, letting you do things like play music, navigate, and listen to (not read / reply) text messages with less distraction than the crappy GM interface.

Someone showed up at one of our HPDE's with driving gloves.

Then he asked us to help him push his seat forward as much as possible to lock in his seat belt.

In his....purple PT Cruiser....not even a turbo.

I'm with you on one point for sure!

However, after using the 16 system, the screen it noticeably different. I think the new hardware is of the capacitive touch variety rather than the older pressure touch. Also, the screen appears to be a much better resolution and a bit shinier. That said, the smudges appear to be a lot more noticeable.

After using both, I would bet that a retrofit isn't in the works.
