Default Help me decide

My 2015 has a TPW of 06/08 fromfrom kerbeck. Living in Chicagoland I can't decide if I should have it shipped or pick it up..

Pick up: cheaper. Cost about 300$ for flight, has, etc. But will put 800 miles on it first day

Ship it: about 1000$ and get it will 0 miles. Scared about damage tho.

Then again, driving it back may damage it. Rock chips etc. Help me stop over thinking this!

If I were you, I would fly or take a train and pick it up. I might feel different if it were the middle of January, but this time of year, go get it. Take the back roads home and take your time and break the car in right, varying your speed and enjoying the sights. Heck, pay me a few hundred bucks and I'll go get it and drive it to Chicago for you if you'll buy me a train ticket back to Maryland.

Ship it, its more costly if you get into a crash with a teenager that is just learning to drive!

Of course, many other scenarios exist other than a "teenager" driver.

I'd fly and drive it home. It's a great way to learn about the car and get used to all the attention it seems to draw. I drove mine home from the museum - 2,000 miles in 3 days and no issues with road rash, etc.

Congrats and enjoy!

Pick it up. I had mine shipped from Kerbeck and it was fine but the only reason I shipped was it was the end of December. This time of year I'd make a great road trip out of picking her up.

Depends on your plans for it. If you are going to drive it frequently and enjoy driving it, why not enjoy driving it from day one. If you are going to treat it like a work of art and keep the mileage low, then ship it.

As to damage, I have driven my various Corvettes to from MI to FL (twice), northern MN, MO, NC, and CA all the way on historic Rt 66. Never any damage on any of those trips. Did damage occur to any of them? Yes, all within 30 miles of home.

My advice--drive the car. It's too much fun to worry about mileage, damage etc. Enjoy it.

You will LOVE this car.

I'd say drive it. That's the whole point of the thing. These cars don't seem to get rock chips the same way a more upright car does. Mine has a tiny rock "indention" on the front at 1300 mi that you'd only see if you're OCDing the front while cleaning. My car also has a little scratch from where the gf hit big-*** nasty retread. Not sure how the car survived other than the Z06 splitter I put on took most of the impact. Splitter was discolored and scratched from getting twisted up during the impact but it was still in one piece. Took it off the car and am plasti-dipping it flat black. Might look even cooler than unpainted. Take lemons and made lemonade I guess. A splitter is something you might want them to install before you drive. They're about $110 shipped on Ebay. About a 30 minute job to install. Really saved the front of my car last weekend.

Fly and drive. You should get a good familiarization from your salesman, and it's the perfect time of year for a road trip. Picked up mine about this time of year in Ohio, and enjoyed every mile home to California.

As was previously stated, if you are going to put a lot of miles on it then drive it home and enjoy. However, if you want to control the miles and enjoy looking at the odometer and seeing low miles especially numbers under 500, then ship it.

Ship it, no way do I want to get comfortable with all the features while driving it 800 miles. I would rather have it home, be able to fool with all the electronics, and break it in at a more relaxed pace.

Fly and drive. 800 miles is nothing. Just be sure to follow the Owner's Manual directions on new car break in. In a day you will be past the 500 miles break in period and able to have fun the rest of the way home. Maybe even plan a pit stop at a large dealer along the way to get the oil changed after you hit the 500 mile mark. Don't do too many back roads as they can get too interesting if you get on ones that are poorly maintained.

If you have somebody that can travel with you spend some time on the drive home by seeing some of the sights and attractions along the way.

I got it! Tell kerbeck that I will pickup and drive your Vette to Chicago. You save airfare and or shipping. Just kidding! My tpw is June 8th also and my dealer is also kerbeck but I live about 75 miles from them. So no problem for me. Just fly to ac and maybe see you there!

A-C to Chicago is really not a very "scenic" trip... I live in Philly, lots of PA TPK, Ohio, Interstates and Corn. This is not a 1 day trip... food and hotels and gas will offset shipment costs... plus your time...

I'm all for driving the car home, but for 800 miles, I can think of a nicer road trip....

I was planning Museum delivery for my car and making a 7-10 day road-trip out of it...Nashville, Ashville, (maybe Trashville...)... if that's what you thinking about, then that's a different deal.
