In "D" mine in most cases shifts at 6400~6500, sometimes 1st to 2nd is a little sooner.

Not 6500 that's for sure lol. Each gear is different, 1-2 and 2-3 are a little earlier, 3-4 and 4-5 are much closer to redline.

I've wondered since I got my car if this was a display issue, if the engine really is shifting at 6500 and the tach just doesn't respond quick enough to display it accurately, or if it's really being lazy.

I need to data log mine and find out for sure, for drag racing I would want it to shift right up against the limiter every time.

Has anyone with a tune noticed a change in shift RPM?

My 2015 A8 Base ZF1 tires with T/C off, in Competitive Driving mode in D as recorded on my PDR shifts consistently at 6200/6300 1 to 2, 6200/6300 2 to 3 and 6300/6400 3 to 4.
Pure stock, no tune 30lbs tire pressure and about 65 to 72 degrees F.
I found this by playback on the video and stop framing as the tach increased through each gear. It happens a little too quick to eyeball it.
Speeds were 42 (1 to 2), 68 (2 to 3), and 94 (3 to 4). Sorry haven't had enough room to take it any higher.
My timed 0-60 PDR runs have been 3.9 to 4.4 with different weather conditions and best of 3.9 no passenger and 4.4 with passenger.

Guess I have a good eye

I would still like to see a back to back comparison of a tuned/non tuned car to see if the shift points increase.

Good eye;Yep your pretty much on the button from what I've seen using stop framing.
Two things; one I agree, I'd like to see a "tuned vs non-tuned" and my car as I mentioned is a "base". The Z51 has a different gear ratio. I'd be curious to see how that runs out.
My 0-60 times were with and without launch control. For the most part I got slightly better times (only .01 to .03 different) with LC off and just rolling out a bit. I found rolling out with TC on was the slowest times and with TC off was consistent 4.0/4.1 and my best at 3.9.
All the runs were on good condition concrete. I assume you could get way better times on a prepped track (1/4 mile).

I thought only the M7 cars had a different rear end gear for Z51 vs Base?

Don't all the A8 cars have the same rear end gear? (aside from Z06)

Nope, A8 base and Z06 get 2.41:1 while A8 Z51 gets 2.73:1

Yep you're right, I had it backwards. Looks like all the M7 cars get the same rear end gear.

'15 Z51 A8. 1-2 and 2-3 right at 6500 on the two occasions I've checked while in D. I drive it a lot in M and have shifted myself right at 6500 8-10 times - wonder if that helped the learning curve in any way?

2015 A8 base model with Trifecta tune. (The Trifecta tune calibrates both the ECM and TCM.)

Rolled into the throttle from 70 mph in "D" and in touring mode. The A8 shifted exactly at 6500 rpm at 132 mph. I was at 5000 ft elevation.

Don't know what gear it started in or shifted to.

2016 Z51 A8. 2 @ 6500, 3 @6500, 4 @ 6000, 5 @ 6500. I have a tune but don't think they adjusted shift points.

Looks like mine was shifting at 6350 rpm on the track. The problem with manual paddle shifting is that if you're slightly late on your shift and hit the rev limiter the engine essentially shuts down for a couple seconds. Sort of ruins your run.
