There is a newer protocol than OBDII?
I use UltaGauge and I know some use ScanGauge which do what the second link does but you do not need a smartphone for either.
But each only work with OBDII vehicles.
Something I consider advantageous but some may not is when these are plugged into the OBDII port they interfere with some OnStar functions. I state that as a positive as I am the world's foremost defender of OnStar.
