Default Is my car leaking???

Every time I pull my car out of the garage I see a spot on the floor. It's a clear liquid that has a slimy feel. It is coming from the rear end directly in the middle of the vehicle like where the rear axle meets in the center of the vehicle. My car is a 2015 Z51 1LT with selective magnetic ride control and has only 534 miles on it. I just completed my first oil change.

I crawled under vehicle and did not observe any leaks but when left for a few days or week there is a small amount of fluid on garage floor. Has any of the forum members had this problem?? Is it just cause the car is brand new? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks..

Might be a good idea to take the car into your dealer and have them take a look at it. Getting it up on a lift might give a better view.

A new car shouldn't leak fluids!

Blot some of the liquid up on a clean paper towel & take it to the service department with you. If they have trouble finding the leak, it'll help them decide it it's differential, shock, transmission fluid, etc.

Are you sure it isn't just water from running the AC that now feels a little slimy because its been on the garage floor?

That would show up under the front passenger side. OP says this is under the rear.

Put the tip of your finger in the puddle and taste it. If it has no flavor it is condensation from the A/C...perfectly normal! If it tastes sweet, it is antifreeze...take it to the shop. If it is oily, it is oil...take it to the shop. Don't panic if it is oil. It may be nothing more than some oil trapped in the frame after an oil change. All it takes is a tiny taste....don't drink a cup full....just a taste on the tip of your tongue!

You can taste it if you like. If I see a puddle of fluid under my car I will figure out some other way of identifying it. Reminds me of a joke. Looks like dog crap, smells like dog crap, feels like dog crap, tastes like dog crap. Gee, I'm glad I didn't step in it.

Hi There - I've just noticed this today as well on my 2014 Z51 M7 - Your description of the small tine puddle and liquid consistency and the location in the center rear axle is spot on what I am observing - i've noticed last night. Did you take your car to the dealer? What was the outcome? I am very curious and already tickled for the fact that a new car should not leak anything.

As far as the A/C is concerned....this is something I learned on my C6....Turn your A/C OFF a minute before you get to where you are going and let the all the water evaporate out of the system...ESPECIALLY if you are going to leave it sit for a while. That way no odors will develop from stagnate water sitting in your system.

Let them find it; they have to fix it.

I would take it to the dealer, there should not be anything under your car except concrete while in your garage.
If you can reach the diff feel along the seams and if you feel something that is slick or slimy feeling a seal might be compromised. I would do the same along the axles also.
No matter what you find it needs to go to the dealer, your car is under warranty. After you get it back take it out and drive it!

I was able to take a picture (see pic below) where I believe the fluid leak is coming from - does anyone here knows what is this part? The fluid looks pinkish color. The part where I believe is leaking from is located nearby the transmission - is this the "cooling system axle?". I've already scheduled a dealer visit today but I wanted to get your opinion to understand if is safe to drive to the dealer or if I will cause any damage to the car. Also, there are no warning lights on my dashboard.

This is the location where I believe fluid is leaking from...

Last winter people were reporting that their 2014 M7s had small oil leaks from the (either transmission or differential) seals shrinking in the cold. I think I remember GM looking into it and coming up with some replacement seals.

I never saw any oil on my floor last winter, but I plan to keep an eye out for it. Good luck!

You have a rear axle seal leak. GM has a problem with the seals.
