On my 2015 2LT coupe when the a/c is on auto it stays in recirculate mode, the recirculate light not on but the screen shows auto, which vents and recirculate. To get fresh air gotta push recirculate button, auto comes off push recirculate again and shows fresh air.
Mine blows hot air as an added bonus in auto mode.
I don’t understand why anyone uses the “AUTO” function. It thinks it’s smarter than you and tends to blow marginally cool to luke warm weather in the summer in particular.
You get much better efficiency when you control the temp and fan speed manually and in the summer, absolutely run it on “RECIRC”. That way you get exactly what you want.
About the only time you might not want to run in RECIRC in the summer is if your climate is regularly very humid and then you ought to run sometimes w/o RECIRC to keep mold etc from growing inside the system. Don
Auto works fine for me after I adjusted the fan speed up to max (factory was med.). That way it can go from low all the way to max. Before it didn't work so well. The only time I don't use Auto now is when the top is off. I like to run floor and vents as that helps the seat cooling feature work better. Otherwise with the top off the seat cooling just blows hot ambient air.
Also even with the AC button turned off the compressor will run when the thermostat is set to LO...
Additionally I've noticed if your running down the road & you have AC mode set to recirculate the rear vent ( the vent that opens when you open the hatch) closes & when you set the mode to fresh air the vent opens. When the vent is open the road noise in the cabin increases & quieter when closed.

I hated Auto mode until I did this. Now I leave mostly on Auto, cool down is much faster on entering a hot car. Have to enter menu and allow max fan on Auto. Try it!

I made this change, too, and find Auto mode to work fine. I'm not a big user of the AC and mostly just leave it off when making quick trips around town, but on when on the highway or when it's raining.

You must be more warm blooded than me. Your signature says you are in Baton Rouge and you are "not a big user of AC"? I'm in Minnesota and I've almost always got it on
Anyway for those talking about the re-circulate being on when in Auto mode I've never seen that. But I see the OP is in Florida - so my theory is that the system it taking the conditions into account (temperature, humidity, etc.) and deciding you need recirc where I don't.
These systems are actually pretty smart and like others have said, I find that changing the setting to allow max fan in auto and then just letting it do its job works pretty well.

Okay - so maybe there is some hope for "Auto" mode. Gotta try this. Fingers crossed.

I'm very tolerant of hot weather and not tolerant at all of the cold. My location would suggest that AC should be on at all times in summer, but although most of the time I don't feel the need to turn it on for short trips (like my 3-mile jaunt to the gym) there are exceptions. Our heat index ("feels like" temperature) that factors in humidity usually hovers above 100° in summer, which would cause even the most hot-blooded of people problems in slow-moving traffic. The humidity is the killer down here more than temperature. Yesterday at 6pm I took a ride in 91° temps with windows down and it was really quite pleasant. When it's raining I usually turn it on to keep the windows defogged, summer or winter.
