Default Squealing brakes

Recently, I have experienced squealing brakes at very low speeds. It does not happen all the time, but has happened on multiple occasions. I have the Z51 with slotted rotors, standard pads. 7500 miles.

Has anyone experienced this, and what's the fix?

Long shot here, but I spent two months trying to diagnose squeaking brakes at low speeds - really more of an occasional chirp. Ended up being the butterfly valves on the exhaust causing the squeak. Probably not what you're talking about, but just in case.

Myself and a number of others experienced this when our cars were new. Right out of the box mine were squealing and after about 1,000 miles they quit and have not had it come back. It was sure embarassing when you have a brand new car without plates on it yet and it sounds like an old garbage truck. You could try a series of hard stops from 60 MPH to burnish them-that has worked for some owners. There was also some "anti-squeal" spray that dealers could apply to help minimize the issue. Mine quit squealing on their own so never had to go that route.

My new Z started this intermittently at approx 400 miles. Seems to have quit now at 600 miles.

Mines continued and I have had my rotors turned and then replaced but not the brakes. I have contacted GM and they refuse to help at all and this is my sixth Vette I have bought.

It is really sad when I drive up to a place with an $78k car and the squeal makes people turn around.

My Z51 did it as well after about 1000 miles, very loud at low speed stops. Used 5 to 6 very hard braking from 60 mph to about 20 mph. Stopped for a month. Came back and repeated the heavy braking and never did it again. After a year installed CarboTech 1521's to eliminate excessive brake dust. Bedded the pads per the manufacturers recommendation and never heard a pep! After 6 months can report the pads are terrific, very little dust and IMO stop better when cold and as good when hot.

Had the same prob. Chevy has a fix under warranty. It's some type of silicone applied to the caliper(not the pads). Worked for me.

The dealer told me that it will always do it. I told him about the forum and that so many on here have not had this problem. Not sure why they would replace the rotors but not the brakes. I did have one of my rims replaced due to it being out of balance.

Could that have affected the brakes any? Would the brakes also need to be replaced since the first rotors were turned and now new rotors are on car with same issue? I told GM to just replace both and then it wouldnt be a issue. But this patch work they are doing is crazy.

I had that same problem with my '15 Z51 coupe. Recently changed to ceramic brake pads, and no more squealing!! I don't know if the new ceramic pads had anything to do with that, but it has stopped!

Hi HogwildC7,

I am really sorry to hear about your brake concerns in you Corvette and can certainly understand how that can be frustrating. We definitely want to look into this. Please send us a private message along with your case number or VIN, mileage, contact information and dealership name.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Completely opposite experience.
I have a 2014 Z51 with black wheels...shows brake dust very quickly..
Read about these so called "wonder brake pads" from CarboTech and
ordered a set of the 1521s...HUGE mistake!
Before the install, had about 3800 miles on the car..
Whisper quiet stopping, just nasty brake dust on the wheels...
After installing these pos pads, bedding them according to the manufacturers's instructions, sounded like a freight train stopping...horrible metal on metal squeal!!!!!!
To his credit, the seller refunded my money on the pads,
but I was still out the install labor and got some bs about
how the pads must have been "overbedded" ....have not
seen that term anywhere on the web....makes no sense anyway...

Same thing with my C7 did it once in a shopping plaza and once when leaving work. I hit the brakes hard a few times and it stopped.

Now my C6 on the other hand likes to squeal sometimes and that's even after my third set of brake pads and new rotors. I just deal with it because I know how to avoid it and the blower whine/squeal hides it.
