I don't think I'm that important for anyone to care to listen. I know on our C6 if you pull that fuse and you have Bluetooth they both would stop functioning. No easy way to terminate the OnStar service entirely on a C6 with Bluetooth (unless you don't care about that feature). I can't say on our C7 what ill effects you'd have from disabling OnStar.
If they do, the only thing they'll hear is Hair Nation or Ozzy's Boneyard from the radio. Or me telling the driver in front of me that the light can't get any greener and to go the Hellz on!!
Haven't taken delivery yet. Can I ask my dealer not to activate OnStar or is it mandatory? Is it activated from factory?
Your dealer will activate it, not the factory. Yes, you can ask them not to, but they may ignore you and "forget" you asked. I understand they get a kickback for every activation.
Thanks! If its not activated, is it still communicating? Meaning can it be hacked or tracked? I don't plan on subscribing so any benefit to activating?
Before I convinced OnStar that I wasn't going to buy their service I was annoyed repeatedly with phone calls from them. I wanted to disconnect the OnStar module. I found fuse 27 on the rear fuse panel is for OnStar and wondered if pulling that would kill OnStar and not affect other parts of the car. I never did but those who want to try it and report back, that would be helpful for those who want to disable OnStar.
Exactly, I have a Jeep with 3G Uconnect and had to apply patch. I don't want 4G in MyLink active if I can help it. Is it automatically on or can it be disabled?
They already can track just about anything else they want. The info they collect is good profit for them. Some other manufacturers have a similar system but GM's seems to be most big brother like. Wait until spammers get a hold of your number. I finally DEACTIVATED mine which means it is pretty much dead. They'll warn you that you must call them to hook it back up, even the onstar button won't work. That is all I wanted in the first place.
Please advise me how to perform deactivation, you can PM me. If you just phoned them, I'm not interested in that route. I would like the physically disable it without hurting other functions.
BTW - Never spoke to them, wrote to them or responded to them yet that dam green light is on. Don't like it at all. They keep annoying me with marketing messages. I consider this the most hated feature on my Vette (actually, the only hated feature).
It is my understanding that while you may not be a subscriber to any of OnStar services they still have access to the vehicle.
You can call OnStar to verify.
I believe this is correct. There was a post on one of the Stingray forums where an owner drag racing his car got a call from OnStar asking if he was OK, even though he wasn't a subscriber.
If you want to be sure Onstar can't track your car, you probably need to disconnect the antenna.
Let's stir the pot a little more. If you have a 2015 or 2016 with an active WiFi account, you could be hacked too.
There's been no evidence that this is true. The Fiat / Chrysler issue was related to a software bug specific to their system. No one has claimed to find the same problem on other brands.
It might be possible, but there's no proof of it yet.

Don't you just love the direction our country and this tyrannical govt is heading . Right down the F#(king Toilet and we appoint these people that abuse their powers and our rights. It's just sad what is happening to this great country and all of us aswell.
Okay, putting on my tinfoil hat for this.
I wonder if OnStar randomly listens to in car conversations. Kinda like NSA might do or maybe just for entertainment.
You folks are making this way too complicated. If you are concerned about Onstar or anyone else listening in all you have to do is to block the microphone that is located in the left windshield pillar. A piece of tape over the microphone will do the job nicely. No wires are cut and the GPS system
otherwise functions well.

Umm, pray tell, what do the actions of a private corporation (OnStar) have to do with the government abusing its powers?

One, I'm not sure a piece of tape will block the sound as well as you think. Two, if it does, you're also blocking your ability to make and received BT phone calls. Three, the OnStar antenna and GPS antenna are two different things, so you can disable OnStar that way without affecting Nav. It's just little (or maybe a lot) more work.

Besides, covering the mic with tape won't keep them from tracking your movements.
