Default Oil Change (Dexos)

I have a 2015 Z51 C7, and I took my car in for the first oil change back in February. I told them to use Mobil 1 and they said he don't use anything else.

Last week, I took it in for my second oil change, I told them to use Mobil 1 again, and the same service guy said we will use whatever is on the cap. I explained to him you have to use Mobile 1 and he said okay.

When I got my car back, I asked him "did you use Mobil 1" and he said "yes". I opened the hood when I got home and saw the cap say Dexos (picture below). Are they required to change the cap? I don't know if this guy has been using Mobil 1 or not now. Also after my first oil change, the sticker in the car said Dexos, I did not know what that was at the time so I just ignored it.

What should I do now? If they have been using Dexos from the beginning, how should I proceed about this?

No, they are not "required to change the cap."

As explained in about a million threads here DEXOS is a spec, not a type or brand of oil. Mobil1 is DEXOS oil. Drive your C7 and quit worrying.

Your receipt may show if Mobil1 oil was used.

The sad fact is unless you change your own oil, you will never know for sure what the dealer is using.

Yes, the part number for Mobil 1 should be #12345885 (qt) or 89021636 (bulk).

This is true, but even if they use the GM blend changing the oil every six months (four over two years) will not harm the engine one iota. In fact, it has a good additive package that's similar to Mobil 1 and is made by Exxon-Mobil. That said, I wouldn't use it for the long term if recommended change intervals aren't met, as over time a fossil oil or blend may oxidize faster and eventually create sludge. I can't imagine many Vette owners neglecting their cars in this manner, though.

I know for sure it was Mobil 1 because I watched my dealers Certified Corvette Tech take the un-opened Mobil 1 qts out of the sealed Mobil 1 carton and pour them in my dry sump res...but if I had not watched, your right! LOL

I had an issue at my local Chevy dealer, having discovered dirty oil and what was obviously not a new filter when I got home from an oil change.

They fired some techs for putting oil & filters on the invoice without changing either. Items the customers had bought were going home in those techs' trunks at the end of the day!

Does not surprise me at all. That is why I will change my own oil until I cannot stand up.

Incredible and almost unbelievable, but again this is America where almost anything goes unfortunately. I hope the dealer gave you a certificate for several free oil changes and thanked you for helping them catch the damn thieves.

You should try getting your car serviced in other countries. You may be in for a surprise lol.

Spent several years in Western Europe and I can vouch that most of the dealers and repair shops are miles ahead of the US. You could eat off the floor, all the tools had specific places to be stored, only after being thoroughly cleaned. The mechanics were nicely dressed in clean uniforms. Issues were always resolved on the first visit. Need I say more? I'm sure there are some other countries with issues but I still feel we have lost our compass of integrity in many cases. I am very concerned about the future generations in the US.

This is what my first oil change receipt says (0600723E Oil Change Dexos)

So should I assume they did not use Mobil 1? I will have to check the second oil change receipt when I get it.

I believe the code 0600723E really is for the "under warranty" free oil change and isn't for the type of oil used. Look at the oil part number on the receipt. It should be what iclick previously stated.

Even if it's the blend, and not Mobil 1, you have nothing to worry about. For street use, you're simply not going to see any oil related engine issues using the GM blend, as long as you change it as recommended.

It's not a problem. Dexos is fine. I believe GM made a partnership with Mobil and now they spec out a brand name (Mobil 1).
When I had my 66 GTO it was Havoline.
