How long do you think the C7 generation will continue?
I'm wondering if GM is going to start reducing the 7-8 yr. model cycle to a shorter cycle like the Korean's are starting to do. I wonder if Corvette will move to a 4yr. cycle thus a C8 coming out in a couple of years. Thoughts?
Depends on the budget. Money, money, money. The c4 was not supposed to run that long, but budgetary concerns extended its life cycle. Same happened with the C6.
Most likely dependent on sales....which equals $$$$'s. As sales dwindle and drop under 20k and start edging close to 15k..... I think the heat will be turned up to bring on the C8.
No hurry right now.... The first two years were blockbusters.... Probably 3-4 more years....max. I doubt you'll see a run of years like the C6.
IMO....When the new paint facility is complete, this will also be an indication of the C8 being right around the corner.
Core architecture will likely go two lifecycles like C5/C6 did. I'd imagine the C5 generation or shorter would be the goal. Additionally, with racing in Tudor/WEC an updated platform always keeps it competitive. Sales have been strong and seemingly ahead of targets/projections, so the sooner they recover that investment, the quicker they can attempt to capture momentum and pump new stuff out. I think it's also quite possible that something big is in the works.
I am going with the 6 years that others have stated. Seems as though Corvette is doing well because of the racing heritage. Lots of good stuff...win on Sunday sell on Monday. I believe that there will be some radical changes in the next 3 years.
I expect the C7 will be around for 7 or 8 model years;
I also expect the C8 will be very different and a pretty big disappointment to most of us traditionalists.
Why, because with the 2025 CAFE regulations being part of the C8, expect it to be a turbo 4-cylinder hybrid more akin to a BMW i8 than a C7.
I'm hoping it's going to run long enough that I can afford a used one before the C8 comes out, as I always end up buying my Corvettes right when the next generation comes out so I'm always one step behind (I bought my C5 used in 2004 and my C6 used in 2013) For once I want to own the latest generation, even if it's just for a year or two.
I live near the GM Milford Proving Grounds which has a staff in the thousands. You can't talk Vettes with the locals without the subject of the mid-engined car coming up and how they are running the platform at the proving grounds.
I expect to see a separate mid engine car, (can't discount a Cadillac) with a big price tag running concurrently with the front engine cars.
High volume models from most manufacturers get redesigned every 5 years, with a mid cycle refresh. Low volume cars like Corvettes will end up with at least six years. Anything that causes financial constraints for the company will cause these low volume cars to see their redesign window stretched to allow tight resources to be used for the volume players that bring in the bacon. GM will get 7 years out of this car.
I'm guessing a 6 yr. run. 2014-2016 no real changes-mid model refresh 2017 and some minor changes 2018 and 2019. Sales of 2018 start to reflect staleness of the C7 so 2020 will be the start of the C8. The C8 will be evolutionary not revolutionary like the C7. Time to turn my crystal ball off......
Observed proving ground runs, mid engine (?) (maybe accidentally photographed drawing in design studio), about all that is currently circulating the news media. Until more observations of mules etc, C8 is a few years distant. We are now entering the third model year, my guess is; 2020 will be the last C7.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
