In the distant future if it shows on CarFax you explain exactly what happened to the prospective buyers. If all that was done to the car was a couple thousand of cosmetic work, it is very doubtful it will decrease the value a whopping $5k.

Who wants to gamble if your repair makes it to CarFax or not. There are too many cars for sale that have a clean CarFax, no accidents. My accident made it to CarFax and I got screwed on my resale. People are looking for ways to reduce the value of your car and a CarFax report works great.

Carfax is completely unreliable. Some accidents show and some don't. Buyers who think Carfax is what they advertise aren't very smart buyers.
OP, did you buy your C7 to drive or as an investment? If it's to drive get it fixed and drive it. If you bought it as an investment you need to seriously rethink your investment strategy.
