Well, my car went in to the dealer today to get the software checked/upgraded as necessary. My car was built on February 4th of this year and here are the results:
1. PDR software was upgraded. I ran a short video recording on the way home and the image quality and color are better – not by leaps and bounds, but better. A $100 GoPro camera gives the PDR a run for the money at a fraction of the cost.
2. HVAC module software was updated. First indications are that the problem associated with blowing of hot air out of the vents is fixed with the A/C off. Will monitor this to make sure.
3. Entertainment System software – My car already had the latest software release.
4. Transmission Control Module software was upgraded. It still must go through the learning process, but shift profiles have been improved and the shifting seems to be better. Will monitor as the system learns my driving habits.
Note: These fixes were not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, so be prepared to shell out some $$$ for this. Anyone else have any of these done and were the upgrades covered by the manufacturer's warranty?
I can't believe that isn't covered by warranty - that makes absolutely no sense. The fact that the vehicle is essentially NEW and a software upgrade is available to improve functionality of the vehicle means a problem was identified and it should be covered by warranty. Paying for that is unacceptable in my opinion.
My C7 was also built in Feb of this year. If I am having trouble with the vehicle that a software upgrade will correct then why would it not be covered under warranty ???? Makes no sense. That's what our
3year / 36k bumper to bumper warranty is supposed to cover and if it is under power train then 5year / 100k Again makes no sense !

I had the exact same updates done on Saturday, without the transmission updates (mine is a M7). Included was an oil change and tire rotation R-R and L-L..... cost to me $0.00 including the car they gave me for the day. Re-visit your dealer, there is no easy way to put this other than you were "ripped off!".

For a fact, the PDR update was free from Chevrolet. As others have noted, I suspect the other updates were also covered by the warranty per Chevrolet/GM.
I would contact Customer Service directly via this Forum. They will answer; think you will like what they tell you.
Peace, out.

This is a screenshot of a recent service order on a 2014 in another thread today. Your dealer is wholly unprofessional and should be reported to Customer Service. They will fix this for you.

All of those should be covered by warranty. I'd be doing some complaining if it were me.
what exactly is "PI 1101B software update for the body control module"?
is this so that the car will blow out cool air even without the AC button turned on?

Be advised that the PI1473 A8 update is a two-step process, the second being a "fast learn" procedure. It requires the tranny to be within a required temperature range before the scan tool will allow it to begin. The document says that "Failure to perform this procedure may result in poor transmission performance, DTCs being set, or customer dissatisfaction." I assume from that point it continues to learn as you drive.
Two questions for those who've done this update: (1) How long did it take, and (2) by what process did they get the tranny temperature to spec? My A8 won't get up to 167° (the minimum) without quite a bit of driving, but it has been suggested on another thread that stalling the converter to 1500-2000 rpm for a minute or two will do it. I'm not keen on a tech taking the car out for an extended joy ride unsupervised.

This is the first I've heard of this and agree with most here that it should be done at no charge. I had my first oil change done in May along with the PI1475B software update and there was no charge. I've heard a given dealer may refuse a software update unless you are experiencing a problem the update will rectify.
Right after I posted my thread yesterday, I got an email from one of the owners and a call from the service rep saying they were looking into the matter and would get back to me today. I just received a call that they have a refund check for me that I can pick up this afternoon. Seems any question or interpretation of the warranty requirements has been cleared up for future customers. Thanks everyone for your posts, insights and support.
I bought my '15 Torch red z51 convertible in Missouri a month ago, then drove it home to Oregon. Local dealer doesn't sell or do a lot on 'Vettes. When I took it in for initial oil change service was told everything was up to date. Is there some way I can check myself. Just want to make sure nothing was missed. Thanks

I had the TCM software upgrade/update today. It was free, fully covered under warranty. Got it done at Terri Lebonte Chevrolet, Greensboro, NC
I dont see how GM can charge for a software update when there is a glitch to begin with.
