Default Shift boot removal - help plz

I've got the OEM carbon fiber dash, and have an aftermarket carbon fiber console that I want to install. I can find video on Youtube on the console removal, but nothing about the removal of the shift boot. the boot has to be removed from the original console, re-installed in the new console, then the new console installed into the car.

can anyone give me some advice/instruction on how to safely remove the shift boot. Is there a video somewhere that I just cant find?

Thanks

Assuming you have a manual... (I don't have an auto therefore can't confirm)

You have to do it from the back side of the console. To do so, remove the console and the sifter **** (in either order, but I would do the **** first)

Note - on the shift **** collar; to remove you must apply a fair amount of upward pressure and while doing so, twist it in a counterclockwise direction. It should go about a quarter of a turn and drop down. You'll see the plastic pin and track it is on after removal and understand the upward pressure once you see it.

There is a torx (T15?) screw on the driver's side of the ****. After you drop the collar it will be exposed. Unscrew that and the **** will slide right off.

Once you have the console completely off, flip it over and start with a trim tool at what would be the side closest to the front of the car and work your way around. I found the clips love to reengage once you move to the next one (what a PITA, but its probably a good thing), so I used tooth picks (or popsicle sticks even) to hold the clips out while I worked on the next. Work it all the way around and it should just pop out IIRC. To install into the new console just pop it in and reverse the steps.

Approx time having done it a few times now: 15-25 min
First time, probably 45 min being super careful and learning etc...

Enjoy

There's a whole write up about it for the MGW shifter install. It's a sticky in the tech section. MGW has a video on their site too which is really good.

You don't specify if manual or automatic....but I think both boots are attached to console the same way....

You have to release tabs around the opening.

If you have trouble getting the chrome ring to pull down (actually it requires pulling up before pushing down (sounds like a John Kerry's run for President!) this PDF will help. A number of us have been frustrated since "some cars" make turning it CCW to release very difficult. One fellow said he was ready to use C4 explosive! The pics in this PDF show why. Took me some time after I saw a video showing it done in 10 seconds! Mine wasn't so simple! http://netwelding.com/Shift_Knob.pdf

I finally used a pair of vice grips wrapped with duct tape to get that plastic trim ring to budge. That was the hardest part of doing the MGW.
