Default Ventilated Not Ventilating - Need Advice

Folks-

Like a few others on here, my driver's side seat back fan is RIP (can't hear anything at all from that fan).

The dealer checked and told me it is neither a fuse nor a connection (they tried first reprogramming the HVAC??).

They want to remove the seat and disassemble it to diagnose the necessary fix, but I am extremely anxious to let them do so, as they have no experience assembling a C7 seat.

Is that single seat back fan worth the chance I am taking in letting the dealer remove and disassemble the seat? I can barely feel the two fans in the seat as it is, so wanted your insight.

Any advice appreciated...

I would do it. I use mine daily. I can definitely tell a difference when they are on. Especially when you have the airflow directed through the dash vents and floor vents (Bi-Level).

Also, it is under warranty. If they jack it up they fix it.

At worst they will screw it up, under warranty and you'll get a new one. At best they will succeed with the repair and you will be happy. I think that it's a win win situation.

Check out this video to see how small the ventilation fans are......I can break wind at a higher CFM rate than all three fans put together

I have that cooled seat feature too and was wondering how to tell if it's working when it's 90 out and the top off.

Just went through this with my 15, started out with a nick in the factory pass side seat which worked very well. Dealer put a new cover on which was done real badly, not tight and no bolster at all, never tried the fan so don't know about cooling at that time, they sent the seat out to have it redone, on the way home wife said not working, took it back and servive mgr insisted it was ok, went straight to the owner of dealership and gave my story and plain told her the service people and their manager had no clue, service rep said drivers seat pushes air up and pass seat pulls air down, a regional rep was due in to look at another matter so they decided to keep the car and have him look at it, two days later got a call from the ser mgr saying I was correct, air was not getting threw the seat, took a week and would not tell me exactly what was wrong but now it is back to working like it should. Bottom line these seats do cool, they are not ducted but when the floor is cool they do as they are designed to.

That sounds like a mess. You mentioned they had to send out your seats to be repaired- where did they send it? And how long were you without your car?

My system works quite well (2015 3LT). The only thing I would change is to have the system turn back on when I restart the car, since I don't always remember to hit the switch to reactivate the fan.

I picked up my 16 on July 29th and my seat fans are intermittent. When they work, you can really feel the cooling effect. But sometimes they work when I turn the switch on and then they fade away without touching the switch at all. Same is true on the passenger side.

Is there a trick to setting the climate control to make the seat fans work? Doesn't seem to make sense but it is GM, so....

Mine are working but don't really do much. I wish they were truly cooled instead of just ventilated. The cooled seats in my F-150 will freeze your butt off.

Remember the seats are ventilating. As in they are pulling the air from under them through the seat to cool you. Just fans moving air. There is no A/C air going directly to the seats. However, if you adjust your A/C output to blow out the Dash vents AND the Floor vents it will blow Aircondition cool air under the seat and up through the seat. Try it. It works. As I mention in my previous post I use mine daily. Works great.
Do not know about the passenger seat doing the opposite. That makes no sense to me. Been wrong before though...

That is my (admittedly hysterical) concern- that the benefits of fixing the single fan in the seatback outweigh the negatives of the reassembly (or MIS-assembly).

Yeah- tough call!! completely understand how you must feel

well, you'll be glad if you just bite the bullet and get it fixed now under warranty

a good leather shop can ensure it looks as good as new....most dealers outsource that work anyways to professionals

I’m not one who sweats excessively but I notice the seat ventilation almost immediately. Get the dealer to fix it. Don

In my experience on non-C7 seats, they aren't really the kind of thing you can screw up that easily. In the worst case they would get you a new seat and that's almost always and easy thing to get in. I just removed and replaced the seat from my Sienna and it is just as complicated as the C7 with motors/fans/etc.

It is not OK that the seat fan not work properly; it will always annoy you if you don't get it fixed.
