All I can say is holy *****!! It is disturbing looking at all the pictures.
When they are finished, I would go over every inch of my interior and exterior and make sure I didn't have any scratches, scuffs or other damage. I would also have the tech who did the dash replacement or the service writer, go with me for a test drive before I signed any paperwork. Make sure you don't have any rattles coming from the dash.
Read my previous post. I can guarantee you that your car will never be the same. I was upset when parts of my 84 were scattered all over the shop but that dealer never used my car as a storage shelf. I cannot believe what I am seeing here. Once it is back together I would dump the car as quickly as possible.
I have 14 z51 3LT. At some time during the build a drop of glue got on the dash pad. The dealer was not able to clean off the glue. My eyes went to the glue spot every time I got in the car, so my dealer ordered a new dash pad. The rear hatch also had a flaw that looked like a dent between the rear window and the back edge of the hatch. I told my dealer I did not want this filled and painted. We got the plant to send a new hatch that was already painted. It took a few phone calls to customer service, but a new hatch and dash pad arrived.
It took the tech two days to do the dash. After talking with them about my concerns with the hole dash being apart, I asked if everything would work again. The tech said that during the replacement he found several screws that had been stripped which he repaired.
8000 miles later all electronics work, no rattles or squeaks and the new dash and rear hatch look great.
I hope your dash replacement is as good as ours is. Good luck.
I cant help myself, but I would have gone all Joe Pesci when seeing stuff on my roof, hood, rear or ANYTHING. There would be more f bombs going off that they ever heard.
So the leather on my 3lt was already coming up around the vent by the window which looks like it shrunk. Evidently the only way to remedy this was to order a new dash and do a full dash replacement. I keep my car in the garage and when it's out and about I keep a sunshade up at all times.
I'm pretty terrified after seeing the inside of my car completely dismantled. Has anyone else had to go through this? Also how did it turn out?
This has also lead to another question. I've strictly followed the user manual of not using any leather product on the leather and only using a damp microfiber cloth. Should I have used some sort of leather conditioner? Is the manual wrong? What do you all do for your leather care?
Often times I find it easier on me to not know how things are accomplished during a building or repair project. Usually the more I observe, the more unsure I am of success.
Now, I pretty much drop things off and wait for the call to come pick them up. As long as the repair fixes the problem and the item is returned looking like it did prior to arrival in all other regards, I'm fine with it. What happens in the garage, stays in the garage.
You can make yourself crazy trying to stay in the loop.

To everyone: Since the dash is apparently plastic coated and leather conditioner won't make it to the leather, I would love some suggestions to how I can prevent this from happening in the future.

It goes against my grain not to put some sort of chemical on my leather and vinyl, and after much time researching the topic I've resigned myself to using a damp microfiber cloth as the manual recommends. Vinyl preservative with silicone isn't a good idea because the vinyl coating is porous and silicone is bad for leather, and leather conditioner isn't good because not enough of it soaks into the leather to do any good and it isn't ideal for vinyl. Leather conditioner also usually has oils which mostly sits on top the vinyl and does no good. I'm waiting for an enterprising company like Lexol to come out with an appropriate conditioner for this type of leather, but if it exists today I'm not aware of it. In the meantime leather maintenance is going to be wiping it down periodically with a damp microfiber cloth.
They'd be replacing the cloth top and anything else, if there's any sign of damage.
and likely storing the unassembled top pieces on the dash or seats -- leading to a never-ending cycle.
OP if you watch the videos on youtube showing corvette assembly, you will see that the dash is assembled outside the car and put in as one unit before the windshield and before the seats. Disassembling the car in the manner shown is going to lead to problems.
So there were a few issues. The part around the steering wheel was left open, I could see space / clips under the strip on the right, and they scratched my steering wheel.
While I appreciate everyone's passion for their car and understand how easy it is to get angry at the way this was handled, I didn't feel confrontation would yield the most favorable results and only lead to further confrontation. The service mgr was out last week, the guy that knew was acting mgr at the time. The real mgr was in today, and I showed him the issues in a calm and courteous manner. They corrected two issues already and ordered a new steering wheel for me. He was nice and sympathetic.
I went for a ride and so far so good. No creaks and everything lines up well.
Steering wheel scratch. There is another on the side.
Hopefully after the wheel is replaced all will be well. I don't see any damage to the convertible top or the rear.
Glad that it sounds like it will come out "whole" once you get the new wheel. I am very happy that it has worked out but after the way parts were arranged on your car I would use a different dealership in the future.
Maybe I have spent too many years involved in risk management but it bothers me when careless mistakes and shortcuts are used which greatly increase the probability of collateral damage. I remember when I was still a young kid I read an old electronics magazine which had a regular feature called "Mac's Service Shop" and in that particular episode the bench assistant was observing the shop owner repair one of the "talking book" players which were used by the blind to play books that were available on records. The assistant noted that the owner seemed to be using extra care in re-installing all of the screws and when asked he replied that if you saw how carefully the owner would feel the returned player you would also be extra careful not to put a scratch or gouge in the leather case. The shop owner understood how important that player was to its owner. That is the sort of attitude you would love to find with your tech.
