Default "Suede" steering wheels on Spring Mountain C7's

I was there last week...they weren't pretty but they were functional so I liked it.

I was told they are a factory option, which I could not find on the Chevy build website, not that that helps though as I have no intention of replacing my C7 anytime soon.

Does anyone know if they are a factory option, or does anyone have any experience with aftermarket alternatives or even a cover/wrap to mod the existing steering wheel?

Thanks.

I think you have to get the COMP seats with suede but am not sure.

You can order a factory OEM one from Gene and Patrick at Cultrag.

They probably use the suede because it has a better grip when the palms get sweaty. I like the feel but now need to choose between a round or flat-bottom style.

Did the 2 day at SM last month and was pleasantly surprised to find that there's no hand slippage on the suede covered tillers. Hands stayed dry even though it was 99F outside.

I ordered comp seats with microsuede inserts. With that, you get the microsueded steering wheel, shifter and boot.
I just wanted the seat inserts. So the steering wheel, shifter and boot have all been replaced.

I just picked up my ATS coupe with the Midnight Edition package that includes a suede steering wheel. Just driven it for two days and definitely like the feel/grip but since it's my DD am not sure how it will hold up. Any C7 drivers with lots of miles have any input on this? If it stands up I will definitely consider ordering it on my next 'Vette.

Unless I'm wrong, and I frequently am, the flat bottom steering wheel is standard on all models for 2016.

Where did you get the replacement leather components? I'm liking the idea of a Jet Black 3LZ interior on a Z06 I'm shopping and I want the Comp Seats with the suede inserts, but I like the looks of a leather steering wheel better. I believe the sun visors are also suede with this option.

Suede provides a more consistent grip in difference conditions than leather. If using racing gloves, however, you must use gloves with suede palm inserts. Leather gloves on suede or suede gloves on leather do not work at all.

However, suede doesn't hold up to daily use like leather... it will tend to get ratty-looking over time.

Frankly, with the electric power steering on the Corvette, maximizing grip on the wheel really isn't that critical... its more a matter of personal taste.

BTW... the "suede" on the C7 is probably some synthetic micro-fiber.. not "real" suede, so it may wear better over time... ask again in two years...

i have the suede comp seats. The wheel and shifter show the wear more than normal leather but i really like the feel and grip the suede provides. I am considering a D snapped flat bottom OEM suede wheel.

Funny as I went the exact opposite way. Had the suede inserts so swapped the wheel, sift **** and boot

Don't mind the towels. They were just there to protect the seats while I was working on it.
