What is the shift **** attachment like on the C7 M7? I would like a more tradition shape like a 2 1/4" sphere (pool ball). I don't think I would spend $100 to change it.

Bit more complex then a simple screw. First to have to get the Chrome Trim Ring off. Then a quality replacement requires a special arrangement to hold the boot chrome retaining ring.
The is a PDF of my install with a link to where I purchased my 2 1/4 inch cue ball shift ****. Worth the price IMO, shortens the throw as well. http://netwelding.com/shift_knob.PDF
Great ****, reduces shift stroke and makes side control better,
Great post! That is exactly the information I needed.
Thanks. Have installed replacement shifters in several cars and my S-10, which really needed a shorter stroke shifter. I found my C6 shifter was fine but did not like the OEM **** on the C7. When this "cue ball" **** was introduced decided to try it knowing it would provide a somewhat shorter stroke (it sits lower) and provide a better feel. I particularly find the full cue ball, 2 1/4 inch size, helps with the side movement going to 6th and 7th. It is better IMO for 1st to 2nd when shifting quickly. It also looks good! As you noted, if you downloaded the 6 page picture PDF, getting the chrome ring off may not be as easy as it sounds! As one poster said he was ready to use C-4 explosive! The pic of the grooved ramps shows what's needed. From comments from other posters some folks must have what I found, pins that fit very tight!
