How firm do you have to close the hood, having a tough time with the left side of hood, I have my hand in the center of the hood when closing, right side is fine, left side catches but not 100%

You should close it firmly with pressure on the top (closest to the windshield) center of the hood. The hood is carbon fiber and it doesn't weigh that much. That's why reasonably firm pressure is required for both sides to latch properly. But again, the pressure should be exerted in the center of the hood, not on one side or the other.

Does the DIC alert you if the hood is not closed completely?

I have to drop mine with a bit of a push from about 18" for it to latch on both sides. As many have said dropping from a foot is good, but won't work in my case, left side seems to be hit and miss. After playing around with it found that the 18" with a little push and it works fine.

Like mentioned, the key is to push down from the center of the hood.

On the side that does not close ,turn the black adjuster 1 or 2 turns clockwise. You still have to give it a good wack.

Went to the Corvette plant last month and saw them closing the hood by standing in front of the car, and using a clean cloth pushing the hood down from the center of the hood... All closed cleanly every time.

Thank you for all reply's

Seems a little loud, but it works 18" with a firm push, I guess I'm afraid since you hear so much about everything is made of plastic
I'm a little gun shy of the (firm & push ).

Its carbon fiber, At Grumman some of our fighter wings were the same material!

The "plastic" is fiberglass reinforced. Premix who supplies SMC and was a pioneer in the field says it's typically ~25% with about 40% filler and the remainder resin. But the hood is carbon fiber, thinner and lighter but should be plenty strong.
Funny in my C6 I had to close from the Drivers side to get both to close 100% of the time. With the C7 unless I close from the Passenger side I get both closing only 75% of the time! If I close from that side it's 100%.
I'm not under the hood that often, so no big deal. Guess I could try to close from the center or make an adjustment but why bother.

When trying to close the hood from either side my 15 z-51 it would close on the left front, but not the right facing the hood, no matter which side I dropped the hood on from about 14 or 15 inches.. Soon as I started pushing the hood shut from the front of the car midway up the hood, it shuts perfectly on both sides... and as mentioned earlier, the hood is carbon fiber, it its pretty tough, and doesn't crack easily.
