I thought so too - - until I recently parked the wife's new SUV next to a cart return at Academy Sports thinking it was safe. Picked her up from a fund raiser and she immediately noticed the shopping cart ding on the left rear fender! Checked later and sure enough her full size SUV stuck out about 18 inches beyond the cart return rail! Someone must have pushed their cart from a distance into the return and it did not go inside but hit her car hard. Had a Paintless Dent Repair specialist look at fixing. Although he could access the dent by removing the taillight it was so deep and sharp the he paint would crack! Do you know how much it cost to repair and paint that whole rear fender section? More than my deductible! They did a perfect job however!

Some of you must not be DIY'ers! Walmart is where you buy Mobil 1 at the best price in 5 quart jugs! Recently bought 3 jugs at $26/each - there is a $12 rebate/jug and needed one for the street rod! Note, only two 5 quart rebates allowed under the same name! You can apply via the Internet.

Never park next to, downwind, or downhill from the cart return. I've seen people launch a cart from 50 feet away in the general direction of it. The carts never end up actually inside with this method of return.

The silver one is at the bottom of a downhill slope with no island to protect it.
I always park on the downhill slope side of an island that way the island itself provides runaway cart protection.

Whether I'm driving my Suburban or my C7, no matter where I go to shop, including Walmart, I try to find the closest spot to the door I can find. Parking between a couple of newer SUVs is a good way to hide in a parking lot and still be fairly safe from dings. Parking way out in the boonies, all alone, exposes the car to too many jealous people in my opinion.

I did once with the wife when she wanted something while we were out driving. I stayed with the car in a far corner after dropping her off at the entrance.
I dislike even taking the daily driver to public parking lots in general, because people are so careless about theirs and your car.

We're fortunate our parking lots are never filled so always a good place to park.
Two Other Vettes Parked Near Mine Within the 10 Minutes I was Shopping!

For oil (no filter) there's no cheaper place to pickup Mobil 1.
By the way, that C5, not a Z06 either. Missing rear brake ducts and its a coupe anyways...
