My insurance company is willing to replace my windshield with an OEM unit after it sustained 2 small chips during a trip to VIR. The chips are on the passenger side and according to Safelite are purely cosmetic with no effect on the integrity of the windshield. I have full comprehensive with $0 deductible. Should I have it replaced or live with it?

Have them repaired. Safelite and others can repair these on location with no cost to you. No need to "live with it". I'd rather not have the windshield ripped out if it can be avoided. Increases risk of water leaks.

My car was one week old when I got a rock into the windshield. I had it replaced with no problems. The windshields snaps in and snap out do not worry about leaks.
Since it's on the passenger side and can be repaired I would try to repair it first. Good luck.

Safelite has looked at it and said that the "repair" will likely not be any less noticeable than the chips. I have heard the resin compared to a "bug splat". This is my dilemma. I am going to check with my insurance company and see if I am not satisfied with the repair I can still get a new windshield.
I had a star in my C5 windshield (with HUD) in about the middle and fairly low. It was a little over quarter size and a glass shop did the resin repair. The only time i saw it was if the sun hit it just right, then I got a very small momentary 'twinkle'. The repair was over five years ago and it looked the same when I sold it last month.

The glass in the C-7 windshield appears to be softer than the C-6 and I would wait until you get a chip or chips in the driver's side. I have three small chips on my passenger side and I have only 7,000 miles. If I get any on the driver's side I will have it replaced.

Had 2 C6 windshields with rock chips repaired by Safelite, unnoticeable totally.

My wifes BMW had the same thing as you are saying here. Well long story short after 3 months are so we go to Destin fla. for a long weekend from Tenn. On the way back only resaon I can see is from the HEAT this little small bug splat crack from about below drivers S/Wheel all the way to the end of the windshield almost 1/4 all the way across. Then on top of that if you just pushed on it, it would give a little But being the type of glass it is never did leak.. Safelite also came out & put in a new oem bmw glass in place.
The next week took the car into car wash no leaks in the drive thur wash.....
I'm going back to Safelite next week to have the chips repaired. After the repair I'll make a decision on a new windshield.
More than not that should work, But my wife just kept saying it would be OK. But when they do the glue into it that should clear it up plus make it strong er also... Robert

I've had small defects repaired that were essentially invisible. Had a couple done in Albuquerque in the $30-40 range. Safelite quoted me $99 here in the San Antonio area. Defect is not in the line of sight and hasn't done anything in 3 or 4 yrs so I said no. Don
About one month ago, caught a small pebble in the windshield, right in my line of sight. Two small glass dings resulted. Had SafeLite come to do a 'glass repair'... the tech says he 'stabilized' the damage so it would not spiderweb, but the damage was still very visible from my driving possition, and as I stated above, right in my line of site. I told SafeLite I wanted the windshield replaced - they said 'no problem, $800 bucks' ( or so . . don't recall exact quote).
A year ago, my wife's BMW, with HUD, needed a new windshield - SafeLite did the job and replaced the galss with non-OEM glass. The HUD image was fuzzy. After a few calls, SafeLite claimed their replacement glass was from the same supplyer that BMW uses - -but the glass did not have the BMW logo etched in the glass. Long story short, SafeLite got official BMW OEM glass, replaced the non-OEM glass with the 'official' BMW glass and everything we 'perfect'.
Back to the Corvette story - - - so, bsed on my BMW HUD glass experience, I asked if the glass they intended to use for my Corvette had the 'GM HUD' logo on the bottom right of the gass. Tech didn't know - told him to find out and that he was not authorized to proceed unless the rplacement glass was OEM with logo. A few days latter, SafeLite manger called me an 'assured me' the glass they intended to use was from the same manufacturer as the factory glass, but it did not have the GM HUD logo. Hummmm - I have heard this story before. I told him, 'forget it. I'll go to the dealer'.
Called my friendly, local Chevrolet Dealer (Gearhart Chevrolet, Denville, NJ), spoke to Bernie (the service writer I have been working with for 30+ years) - Bernie told me he would handle it. Took three weeks to get the glass - - - but it was installed yesterday - - 'GM HUD' logo and all - perferct. A little more expensive than SafeLite, but the glass and HUD image is Factory Fresh.
Sorry for the long post - but any of you with HUD should know, at lest from my experience - - OEM glass is the way to go if you need to replace your windshild if you have the HUD option.
